Solved BSOD running system backup.

Getting a BSOD when trying to run a system backup. Seem to happen any time I try and access my secondary hard drive.

I think the problem might be related to the secondary SATA, but obviously I can't solve it.

I tried a different drive and got a BSOD coping files as well, so it doesn't seem to be, just that hard drive.

Primary system drive access doesn't seem to cause any problems.

Attached should be the system dump file.

Thanks

I must have forgotten to hit the upload button the first time. Attached for real now. My apologies.

Update. It seems to happen at random now. More at idle now, when I'm NOT actually using it.

[FONT=Segoe UI, Arial]On Tue 1/8/2013 11:04:47 PM GMT your computer crashed

Bug check description: This indicates that Microsoft Windows or a kernel-mode driver accessed paged memory at DISPATCH_LEVEL or above.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

Is there more information I could provide to help solve this?

Update. I ran full memory scans, checked the hard drive. I have AVG that can't find any root kits or a virus. Double checked with tdskiller. All clean.

Is anyone able to figure out the problem from my memory dump?

I took a look at your dump files and two things come to mind while looking at them, first most of them are pointing to memory corruption, and second most of them can be caused by drivers doing things they are not supposed to. So with that said there are two things I would recommend you try:

Firstly since its a lot faster than the second try turning Driver Verifier on by following this tutorial let it run until you get another BSOD then post your new dump files, or if you can not boot and only get the BSOD then boot into safe mode and disable Driver Verifier from there. If however you run Driver Verifier for 24 hours or so without BSOD or the new dump files fail to pin point the cause I would like you to run Memtest86+ for at least 8 passes if not more. Here is a tutorial on how to do that:

Test ram with Memtest86+

If the Memtest comes back with errors it becomes process of elimination, removing ram modules to isolate the bad ram or testing to make sure that the ram slots on the mother board are still working properly.

Okay, tdsskiller didn't find anything. Does Microsoft Defender Offline reboot on its own when its done?

It looked like it was almost done and nothing was found, but I saw a blue screen (not a bsod) and it flashed so fast I couldn't read what it said. This was on a full scan btw.

I have the boot up USB ready for a memory test and I'm going to do that tonight.

Good news that both the scans came clean.

Let us know the results of memtest.

Okay, the overnight mem test did show errors. I removed one stick this morning and got 4 clean passes. I'll run it tonight all night and then spend the weekend changing the memory and the slots.

I also reran the microsoft defender offline one more time and it made it through the whole scan and went back to the main menu without rebooting, so I am hoping that is it.

If I go a few days without a BCOD or reboot, I'll mark this solved.

Thanks for your help.

Okay, I might have a two part problem. I did have one bad memory stick, but the other passed 22 sweeps. Currently only using the good one.

I did turn on the driver verifier and got a crash and uploaded the latest dump file.

Please let me know what you find.

Thanks

Do some disc checks.

  1. Update your SSD's Firmware (skip it, if it is not a SSD)
  2. Re-seat the sata and power.
    72974453_zps85c47d93.jpg
  3. Run chkdsk /f/r, following the option two of the tutorial Disk Check
  4. Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.
Let us know the results.

Disk check didn't find any errors. I actually went days without a problem and I was getting ready to mark this fixed, but then it crashed two times in a row.

Each time it seems like a different file is crashing. Attached is the latest file. Please let me know if it sheds any light.

Should I just attempt a reload? Is it hardware? I've never seen so many random crashes before.

Do some general USB maintenance. For the port, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

  1. Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
  2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
  3. Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  4. Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
  5. Do the same for all.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.
And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Let us know the results.

EDIT: Still there is enough reason to believe that some virus exists, and I suggest you to scan the system for possible virus infection.

I will try reloading the USB drivers Realtek network adapter.

The computer has passed virus scans from MS offline defender (full scan), malwarebytes, TDSSKiller. I also recently uninstalled a full version of AVG (I used the correct uninstall) because my license was expiring. AVG didn't find anything with a full scan and currently Microsoft Security Essentials passes a full scan. I just checked again today.

Just a quick update. I updated the Realtek driver and all the USB devices and I've gone days without a crash. I'll push some games and video soon and mark it fixed in a day or two if I'm still crash free.

Thanks for everyone's help.
