Thanks, ARC! I found a recent driver for my dinosaur on D-Link's Australian website:
D-Link Support Resources
But if this doesn't work I'll revert to the interface on the motherboard. This is a 1Gb interface and the motherboard is a 100Mb.
I'll let you know!!!
Thanks for all your efforts, I know you have spent a lot of time on this.

Sorry Arc :( - I pulled the adapter out yesterday and it's now in a static bag of shame on my desk. However I had another crash last night at about 1:00am. Can you have a look at the logs please?

Arc: spooky... when i removed the D-Link Ethernet adapter and plugged the original motherboard adapter back in, I looked to see if there's any drivers and installed Nvidia Nforce controller... so, I just did a system restore to Friday to revers that driver install. I mean, what can possibly go wrong... so now it's running on the generic Microsoft driver. Will let you know, just for interest! Again - many thanks for your efforts!

Arc: no, it was running the Microsoft driver before, but wasn't in use as my RJ45 cable was plugged into the D-Link adapter. I removed the D-link from the chassis and plugged my RJ45 into the Motherboard socket and snooped around for a driver as it is 10/100Mb and found the Nforce package. Now I have rolled back by doing a system restore from a couple of days before installing the Nforce, so it's back on the generic driver now. I know, sledge-hammer tactics !

Personally mate I find Netgear and my own favourite brand TP-Link are by far and away the best brands for this stuff this TP-Link TG-3269 32bit Gigabit Network Card is $10 out here. My old TP-Link modem router has been going for years.

Other fixes I have done I use the Netgear stuff but cannot think of one off the top of my head - ever thought of wifi??

Non mate you are not driving everyone mad lets see if e can find some cause because if nothing else this happening has to have a cause:p

Now I say this because it is links like this that are saying the problem is the system is being driven into fault by something in the sytem and it is just a matter of tracking it down.
Blue Screen with BCCode: 1e - Please help - I included Minidump - Microsoft Community
see that ntknlmp for example is saying it is a Windows update related thing unless I am very mistaken it might be interfering with a driver of some sort.

Drivers that are 7 years out of date are bound to cause problems. As Arc pointed out in post #27, this device is obsolete. Replace it with something more modern.

I am getting a tad confused here as there seems to be a problem with GPU, Ethernet card and assorted bug checks pertaining to a few other things.

I know it is not my call but this is a board that is probably past its' use by date - sorry but I am thinking that getting gear for this board maybe like sticking band aids on it. I cannot find the exact driver for the onboard graphics the nearest I can find is the GT 610 Drivers | GeForce whereas the board specs show a GeForce 6100 Motherboards - M2N-MX - ASUS

Anyway I do hope one of the others can sort this for you mate but if the budget can stretch ? new build?

Sorry, Golden - which device is obsolete? Arc told me the D-Link ethernet card was, and that is now languishing in a static bag and not in my PC.

I agree, :( it seems that it is one thing after another. I removed AVG as that was deemed the culprit, and then the D-Link card, and still it NSOD's on me. I have a Radeon X1600 GPU and a USB card, that's all that's left...

In that case why is the outdated NVidia nForce driver still installed?

The outdated nforce driver is still installed, because there is no possible update for this obsolete item. nforce chipset is out of the market. The MX series was their last good call, I can remember by M2N MXSE Plus board, but I had to dump that one, long ago (and that was my last relation with AMD).

snave's problem is, his PC is old. The hardware components are not supported anymore by the developers. Not only the nforce chipset board, but also the D-Link network card. Devices other than network (graphics, storage, audio etc) can be updated and replaced by a microsoft suggested driver via windows update, but network cannot do it. The onboard NCI is always the chipset item. I really dont know how to use any other replacement driver for the onboard network adapter, because windows update will not search for a driver when it is not connected to the internet, and to get connected, you need to install the network driver.

All other devices can work in this way, but not network.

If I have been in snave's place, my last attempt with this issue would have been to get a new PCIe card which will have ample driver update possibilities over a long time in the future. There are some good vendors (on the contrary of D-Link) who not only markets the device (D-Link only puts their stamps on the case, the real thing, teh network chip is always made by others. Previously Marvel or Ralink; Nowadays Atheros) but also develops their drivers themselves. Realtek and Qualcomm (Atheros) are two examples.

This thread is a classic example why I say that I cannot debug nforce machines, almost no solutions are there for them. Not my fault, they are obsolete.
