Recently installed USB drivers for the front of the PC, which hadn't been working up until this point. HP also recommended installing an audio driver, so I did so. Ever since, when the desktop comes out of sleep, it slips into a BSOD.

Initially after sleep, windows comes up, then a few seconds later I lose all the icons and taskbar (seems like explorer crashes), and a few seconds after that, BSOD. It is 100% consistent. The BSOD never finishes doing a memory dump, it hangs at step 2: initializing disk for crash dump. Kernel memory dump is enabled, per these instructions.

I've run memtest86 and chkdsk on the C:\ and D:\ drives, they came back clean. I've also used system restore to before installing the drivers and the issue persisted. I've attached the zip file created by the dm log collector. The desktop is fairly new - purchased January of 2015 - and the computer isn't subject to heavy or all-day use.

My solution for now is to disable sleep, but if there's a way to identify the culprit, that'd be my preference.

The zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

The BSOD never finishes doing a memory dump, it hangs at step 2: initializing disk for crash dump. Kernel memory dump is enabled, per these instructions. I've left it overnight at the BSOD, it stays at step 2.

That's why I ran dskchk, I thought maybe the c: drive was having an issue.

Can you take a camera snap of teh next BSOD screen and let us see it? The onscreen codes will give us at least some place to start with.

Well, then it is storage related issue. Not very uncommon for SSDs with hibernate settings.

Do two things here:

First, Make it sure that the SSD is running with the latest firmware.
How to update the Firmware on your SanDisk SSD

Second, use the system native AHCI controller. Get rid of intel rapid storage. First uninstall it from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Then Uninstall the driver from device manager.

  1. Right click on "my computer" icon and click "manage" on the context menu.
  2. It will open the "computer management" window.
  3. Select "Device Manager" in the left pane, It will list all the existing devices up.
  4. Expand "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  5. Select one Intel device item under it, right click, uninstall.
  6. Continue the process for all Intel items under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"
  7. Now restart the computer. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate native system driver.
Third, dont let the SSD to go to sleep. Follow http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/778-power-plan-settings-change.html ... when you are at step 5. B), set the turn off time for the discs to "zero" or "never". Like this ....

Report us for any further BSOD after doing these three.
