Heya. This is my first post on SF so I'm hoping I'm summed it up right..

Starting about two days ago (with the pre-release of Guild Wars 2) my computer has started crashing randomly to Bluescreens (no message other than being Stop: 0x00000124) without warning when I run games. This hasn't happened before that initial buescreen; as far as I can remember I don't recall my computer ever BSOD'ing for any other reason, although I might be forgetting something a while ago. I'm fairly sure I've run it at higher capacities for longer durations before, with games with higher graphics burdens/burning discs/converting video/folding@home and all. Computer itself was put together from Newegg parts last year after I lost my old one in a disaster. Nothing is overclocked as far as I am aware.

(Parts I used were)

  • Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
  • CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9
  • CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX750 (CMPSU-750AX) 750W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply
  • ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
  • XFX HD-697A-CNFC Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
  • AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor HDZ980FBGMBOX

As it stands, the BSOD first occurred about 45+ minutes into playing Guild Wars 2 for the second time, with graphics on High but not extreme, with some stuff cranked down to low/medium. Back in Beta Testing, GW2 ran perfectly fine, but now these bluescreens are happening. Games which normally play fine indefinitely at high graphics that I run now might go as few as 20 seconds into rendering or as much as about 15 minutes before crashing, either with the same bluescreen (0x00000124) or just freezing the screen and becoming unresponsive.

I am confused about what could be causing it since I tried both running a separate application to crank the CPU usage up to 60-85% for an extended duration and it didn't seem to have any problems and didn't cause the Bluescreen, and I ran FurMark to test the GPU but even though it didn't score very high, it didn't crash my computer outright. I tried updating my Video Card drivers, however, once I did that, the crashes started happening even faster and seemed to be causing more problems than they fixed, so I rolled back to the hypothetically safer AMD Catalyst 12.6 rather than 12.8. I also ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and came up with no errors, so I didn't think it could be related to the memory.

Attached is the .zip from the SFDiagTool and a picture I grabbed of the bluescreens.. Any help or information will be greatly appreciated, since I don't think I have any other options for getting help

Welcome aboard, wintrgreenberet.

Do you use MorphVOX Pro?
if so, first uninstall it and follow if the crashes continues or not. If it continues, inform us, with new dump files.

For uninstalling MorphVOX Pro, use Revo Uninstaller in advanced mode, scan for all leftovers and registries and delete those all.

And get rid of all type of overclocking present in the bios.

Yeah, I use MorphVOX for doing recording stuff. It's not critical but I still use it frequently.

So far, after uninstalling, I've been able to run programs at the same settings I used to, at least for medium durations that I tested since I hadn't wanted to intentionally burn something out and make the problem even worse just to get results. I did turn up the fans in my case as well, although that was more of a safety precaution in hopes that it wouldn't get much worse, and I doubt that would have had anything to do with fixing it, considering I had raised them earlier and still tested with crashes on things.

I'll report back if I bluescreen again even after uninstalling.

Just a question -- is there an idea as to why MorphVOX in particular would have been causing problems? Because I've had it and used it for quite a while and I haven't seen any errors before. I was just wondering if it turns out that it was the problem and it wasn't anything else that I will find soon/cause it to crash on me again in a few minutes, whether or not I could just do a clean re-install of it and be perfectly fine like I was before.

I have exactly the same problem than you when I'm playing GW2. Same BSOD error. I'm really interested if you find the solution.
CPU : AMD PhenomII X4 970 black edition --> Safe
GPU : HD 6950 --> Safe
RAM : Kingston 4x2GB --> tested and safe

All drivers and Windows are updated

Thx for helping

Solved.

Hi,
I had similar BSOD/reboot issues with having the PC rebooting at random times be it under heavy or very light load.
Sometimes when the PC rebooted it did not even get to loading BIOS and got into a reboot cycle that sometimes I had to switch the whole computer off else it would have not been able to boot.

Only after testing other components and finding nothing I borrowed a Thermaltake PSU 750W from a friend of mine. And with that plugged in no more BSOD for a whole evening whereas before I got BSODs all the time.
So apparently it turns out to be a faulty piece of AX750 Corsair PSU Gold. It will soon go back to a shop and replaced by something else from a different brand. Could have been a good PSU but will need to go for something different. Goodbye Corsair.
