Solved BSOD System_Service_Exception - 3 times in a week - no new hardware

Hi guys,

Suddenly seemed to start getting lots of system_service_exception BSODs in the last month or so. Not had them before, only the occasional Driver_Power_state_failure which seemed to calm down once I updated some drivers. I've not added any new hardware or software recently. I thought they happened while playing games (X-COM) but recently they have happened while browsing the web or opening documents.

Log files attached. Computer is getting old now - but any advice?

The BSODs are caused by Avast.

Uninstall Avast using Avast Uninstall Utility. Use Microsoft Security Essentials as your antivirus with windows inbuilt firewall, and free MBAM as the on demand scanner.
Download, install and update those, and then run full system scans with both of them, one by one.

We notice some failure from the part of Trusteer Rapport, too.

But due to the importance of the program, and as an Avast failure can induce a Trusteer failure, not doing anything to it right now. If the situation continues, we have to concentrate on it.

Hi Arc,

Thanks for that. I'm uninstalling Avast, installing MSE and MBAM as we speak. Is MSE really enough of a protection? I was hearing that it got zero marks in the latest AV-Test (http://www.av-test.org/)?

Real life experience says it is enough, combined with MBAM.

All done - MBAM and MSE scanned - no threats. No blue screens since I removed Avast... fingers crossed.
