BSOD then restart too quick to read during startup

Hi everyone.

When I am on the "Starting Windows" screen when booting, I get the BSOD for a fraction of a second, then the system restarts immediately. I can't get on to the desktop at all. This has happened since I moved the Win7 partition using Acronis Partition Expert on my XP OS, to access the unallocated space on the drive. Win 7 Startup Repair runs, but cannot find the problem despite having checked the disk a couple of times, with no errors, and all the files seem intact when looking at the partition through XP.

I really don't want to reinstall Win 7 as I have lots of software installed there and haven't had a chance to export my outlook files (a real bummer!).

Is there anything I can do?

Hi and welcome

first reboot in safe mod (f8) and uncheck the box in system control panel>reboot and startup>uncheck restart auto

then use these to fiind and upload the dmp file created when your computer crashes. Crash and lockup debug 'How To' - Windows 7 Forums

I tried that, and got the same result as doing the startup repair through the boot menu. Could I get to the dump file through my XP installation?

What version of Acronis Partition Expert are you using?
If it's one not certified for use with Win7, I'd suspect that it's hosed your system.

You may be able to access the dump files from your XP installation - but determining the drive letter will be an issue.

The memory dumps are located in the Windows\Minidump directory of the Windows 7 installation.
If it's not there, then check the Windows directory for a file named MEMORY.DMP

Let us know what you find.

Thanks for your input. The version of Acronis was 2004, but unbelievably, I got everything working again today by just choosing 'Startup using last known working configuration'! That didn't work last night, but hey, it's just one of those lovely problems that sleeps on it and sorts itself out! Wish all my PC problems did that!

Anyway, just about to go out and drink the night away!
