Get BSOD when restarting or shutting down. System asks to force closure of file holding up shutdown. Windows Task Manager shows no application running. BSOD appears when I force closure. The only new thing I done recently is install VirtualBox and try to run Windows 10 Technical Preview as a virtual machine. I was not successful so I uninstalled VirtualBox.

Hi Yogaduane.

Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus. You may keep Fences there, too.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
Then Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :

  • Download and execute Driverview
  • View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
  • Edit > Select all
  • File > Save Selected Items
  • In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
  • Zip the .txt file and upload it.
We need to see that file in this case.

You need to update your Asmedia USB3 drivers.
Code:
Description : ASMEDIA XHCI Host Controller Driver
Version : 1.14.1.0
Company : ASMedia Technology Inc
Product Name :
Modified Date : 9/14/2011 5:05:34 PM
Created Date : 9/14/2011 5:05:34 PM
But Motherboards - P8Z68-V PRO - ASUS does not have any update with them. Try any other source.

Also Uninstall all the ASUS bloatware you have installed, including ASUS Ai Charger. That is a must. I'd recommend you to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219576-clean-up-factory-bloatware.html, with a special reference to Point #13
13. Consider a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is often better than getting a new computer considering how pre-installed bloatware can corrupt Windows 7 even if it's completely cleaned up.

Let us know the results.

If the BSOD continues to occur even after removing ASUS Ai Charger and you cannot get an update to the Asmedia USB3, you may opt for a BIOS update. You have one update available, Version 3603(Only for Win7 & Win8). But BIOS updates are always risky. If you dont have any prior experience with BIOS updates, better you take the assistance of any technician to get it done.

I updated the bios to version 3603, removed ASUS Ai Charger from startup, updated the ASMedia XHCI Controller drivers from ver 1.14.1.0 date 9/14/11 to 1.16.12.0 dated 8/16/13. I found the updated driver in the support section for a different ASUS motherboard. Still getting BSOD's on restart or shutdown. Attached are the BlueScreenView and WhoCrashed printouts. I am an experience user. I have been playing with windows computers since the original IBM PC. About 5 years ago I started building my own machines.
