BSOD. USB ports seem to lose power.

Hello everyone,

Since a few days, I'm encountering a rather annoying problem on my desktop PC. My keyboard (and other USB items) often does not work upon start-up. I can use it to go into BIOS, but it stops working when I have to sign into Windows. Note that these USB items work fine on my laptop. Sometimes they do work upon start-up, but lose power after an hour or so. Trying to restart takes forever ('shutting down' screen takes about 15 minutes before generating a BSOD - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE - details in ZIP).

I've also uploaded a printscreen of device manager (sorry for the Dutch). No exclamation marks for USB, however I do see one exclamation mark next to video controller. Not sure what this is. It says the drivers are not installed (Code 28). I'm not even sure what hardware device this concerns.

Further info: the USB legacy option in BIOS is enabled.
My next and final attempt would be to reinstall Windows, as nothing else has worked so far and I'm not quite that IT savvy. In other words, you guys are my last hope (:

Hi jensdev,

You are running an ASUS Product ID on an ASRock board.
This makes your installation counterfeit.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.
Code:
Fabrikant van besturingssysteem: Microsoft Corporation
Configuratie van besturingssysteem: Zelfstandig werkstation
Type build: Multiprocessor Free
Geregistreerde eigenaar: xxxx
Geregistreerde organisatie:
Product-id: [COLOR="Red"]00426-OEM-8992662-00173[/COLOR] <-- ASUS PID on ASRock board
Oorspronkelijke installatiedatum: 18/08/2013, 21:01:35
Systeemopstarttijd: 30/10/2015, 15:12:15

I recommend to install a genuine copy of Windows.
If, after you have installed a genuine copy of Windows, you still get BSOD's we'll be happy to assist you.

Hello axe0, thank you for your response.
I bought this desktop 2nd hand and it came with a clean Windows copy. I never bothered to reinstall a fresh copy of my own, nor did I ever receive any notification that my Windows was not genuine. I should still have a genuine Windows 7 copy though, which I'll install.

Hello everyone,
I've installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 but sadly, the problem as described in my initial post has not been resolved. I've attached a new ZIP file to my first post. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There are no logs from any BSOD.
Please check {windows partition}\windows\minidump and check if there are any dump files saved.
Please make sure your pc is configured for small dump files How to configure minidump | Windows 7 tutorial

If daemon tools is installed, looking at the startup programs
Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

  1. Uninstall Daemon Tools
  2. Download the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
    • Double click the executable to open it
    • Click on the button shown below

34700d1440923396-bsod-0x124-whea_uncorrectable_error-nothing-works-a887c9d9e7.png

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

Hello Axe,
I created a new ZIP with minidump files. Strange they weren't in that folder automatically because I wrote this post right after I got a new BSOD. All system settings for creating minidumps are also correct.

I've gotten rid of Daemon Tools. It's been on my computer forever and never created any problems.
Maybe your trained eye can see something in the new ZIP file? I don't know if it's worth noticing, but the exclamation mark next to video controller in the device manager is also still there after clean Windows install.

Daemon tools doesn't only use sptd.sys driver, but also uses its own poorly coded drivers that are known for causing BSOD's in Windows 7.

From the 2 dumps, these drivers have been flagged
Citrix USB driver

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia. Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver.

Citrix Receiver is software I actually need on a daily basis to connect to the server of my workplace. I can't use it anymore? Something wrong with the software itself or my installation?

I will reinstall Nvidia and report back if I still have issues. I've actually been having some issues with display drivers after reinstalling Windows, as sometimes my screen just blacks out on booting right when Windows is supposed to kick in.

Thanks for your help so far!
