This was kinda scary given it was not a cheap build, but at the time I was busy and just worked around it by using Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer instead of Chrome.
Lately we are seeing a good lot of cases where Google Chrome is causing Stop 0x124 BSOD.

I would suggest you to uninstall it completely, because that is the only action that helped to stop BSODs in the similar cases. Yes, you are not alone facing this issue.

Nothing more can be said at this time because the zip you uploaded does not contain any crash dump.

Follow it: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html
Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Now wait for another BSOD. When it occurred, search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. See if the crash dump is recorded or not (hopefully it will be recorded).Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

Dont run any disc cleanup tool before you upload another zip.

Glad to hear I am not the only one from the outset with this problem. It has occurred while using Skype and OBS which is livestreaming software too but only rarely.

Apologies re:crash dump, I have uploaded a crash dump in this post.

Won't run any disc cleanup tools :)

Thank you very much.

Checked your crash dump .... you need to uninstall Google Chrome and see how your computer works with any other browser.

Report us for any further BSOD after uninstalling Google Chrome.

Hi Arc,

Thanks very much for the help, I uninstalled Chrome as instructed. I then went on to use another browser and some other applications at the same time to try and get a BSOD from what has caused them in the past when not using Chrome and was unfortunately successful.

I have attached another dump file with this latest BSOD.

Thanks for your time.

Try disabling hardware acceleration

Hello Nooblet,

It sounds an awful lot like the drivers aren't right. Chrome could be attempting to hardware decode the video causing issues from your graphics card. Can you try chrome://flags/#disable-accelerated-video-decode disabling the hardware acceleration and seeing if it solves your problem?

Thanks.

Hi,

I tried disabling the hardware acceleration and it was already disabled. I will give it a go with it enabled.

Today I tested a variety of different things:
-Removed graphics card and tested
-Removed network card and tested
-Tried different network drivers and tested

Every time the BSOD still occurred. I have since put my graphics card and network card back in. I am now in the process of downloading every Windows Update I don't have and updating all my drivers as well as installing a few programs I need to use - however this is only so that I can use the computer for some projects.

I am unsure of whether any of the things I tested above would help but I thought I may as well give them a try, I have been looking everywhere for solutions!

From my very very very tiny understanding of blue screens I think it is either a driver/motherboard/CPU error?

Also I think there is more to this issue than something Google Chrome specific as it does occur when running Skype and OBS (livestreaming software) it just takes much longer than the length of time Chrome takes to produce a BSOD!

I have uploaded my latest dump files. Thank you all for your time.

As the same issue continues even with firefox, we cannot blame Chrome solely here.

By definition, a stop 0x124 is a hardware related BSOD, and with the first parameter of the bugcheck is zero, it may be anything and everything that is causing the BSOD. So let us have a thorough check.

► Make it sure that all the important windows updates are installed there.

► Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings. Also set the BIOS to default, too.
How To Clear CMOS (Reset BIOS)

► Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.

  1. Click on the Start button
  2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  3. Select the “Startup” tab.
  4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  5. Apply > OK
  6. Accept then restart.
► Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator - The only power supply calculator trusted by PSU manufacturers and computer enthusiasts
Also let us know the wattage of the installep PSU.

► Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .

► Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
Run memtest86+ for at least 8 consecutive passes.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

► Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Take a screenshot of the furmark window before closing it. Upload the screenshot for us. Also let us know if you have experienced any crash/BSOD and/or artifacts during the test.

► Stress test the CPU.
It saves the result as a .txt file in the prime95's folder. Upload the file for us.

► Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs.

Let us know the results.

Hi Arc,

Working through the list you posted, thank you for the ongoing help! I have added '- still BSOD' just to show I have tested with the latest modifications on your list as I go.

All the latest Windows Updates have been installed. - still BSOD

I am not overclocking, BIOS has all default settings currently. - still BSOD

Startup configured as asked. - still BSOD

I used the PSU calculator - it was also the same one I used when I first selected components. Wattage should be fine, my PSU is a Seasonic X-750 80Plus Gold 750W V3.

Computer is not hot, the times I have pushed it to the limits have been during hours of video/3D rendering as well as playing some games at maximum settings. I have not had a BSOD whilst doing this, my CPU sits at between 60-70 degrees celsius during these times. From startup and for the most part of what I have been using my computer for it has been idling around 40 - I will complete Speccy summary as requested when I next get a chance.

Currently up to testing the RAM, so far 2 passes with 0 errors, 9 hours elapsed. Will continue with your other suggestions after 8 passes are completed as requested.

Thanks again for your help. Looks like it will be around another 24 hours before I post anything more as this RAM test will take quite a while.

For the temperature, memtest86+, Furmark etc, it will be best if you can document your results with screenshots, camera snaps, etc.

Just ran prime95 stress test, CPU went up above 90 degrees within a matter of seconds, stopped the test immediately. Used RealTemp and Speccy to clarify the temperature increase.

I have never seen the CPU hit above 70/71 but that was blown away by prime95. I have a H60 CPU cooler installed. Not sure what to do next, I scanned for virus infections results showing as complete clean. I need my computer for the next week so if it does come down to a CPU issue then I will not be able to replace any hardware for at least a week.

Thanks for your help, I will continue monitoring this thread for any new ideas/tests to run.

Your CPU is supposed to run a bit hotter, but this is extreme.

Make it sure that you are not overclocking the CPU, at least at this moment, within troubleshooting.

Open the computer. Clean the inside carefully, preferably with compressed air. Clean all the air vents and fan grills so that the computer can blow the hot air out effectively. While re-seating the computer, apply new thermal paste to the CPU.

Now see how much the temps are reduced. Report us the resulting situation. If needed, we will attempt to run prime95 again after doing the above.

My apologies for taking so long to get back to this.

I have cleaned all of the dust out of the case (there was not much) and I have re-seated the CPU with new thermal paste as instructed.

I then opened around 8 tabs in Google Chrome all watching YouTube videos. I had Speccy open at the same time and before five minutes had passed the computer blue screened. All my temperatures were fine, CPU was sitting around 40 degrees.

I also ran the prime95 CPU stress test again and the CPU performed in the same way as before. Hitting over 90 degrees in seconds, I stopped the stress test after the first few seconds. Screenshot attached, along with my latest BSOD logs.

After all the troubleshooting we have done so far, I am thinking it is either the CPU or mobo? I look forward to hearing back from you, thanks for your time and help! :)

The CPU is still burning. It should not be the case after applying new thermal paste.
