BSOD w/ new HD and fresh system recovery

After many months of having a downed computer due to a failed hard drive that was out of warranty I finally got a replacement one. I did a full system recovery from the discs which I ordered from HP, updated audio and video drivers etc but may have missed something along the way.

So far my major issues are very low volume with anything unless I've got my headphones plugged in, I've got some Logitech 5.1 speakers yet I seem to only get audio from the center channel unless I do the audio test. This problem I can live with and deal with later but I recently re-installed Aion and within a few moments of signing in I BSOD, system reboots etc I am running it as an admin, compatibility mode etc yet not sure where or what I need to look into now.

I've attempted to use the SevenForums diagnostic tool to get the error zip file but I've run across an issue with that as well.

Believe I have found the culprit, removed the odd 1 GB stick out of there and it hasn't crashed yet. I had previously cleaned out the entire shell before installing the new HD, fresh install of Windows and the likes.

Went a day without a crash but when it did again there was a different code this time. I shall upload the new information once I finish with my honey-do list.

*I had to toy around with my audio a lot to get even half decent sound. Crashed about an hour into playing a game.

If you are sure that it is crashing with a new stopcode, make it sure that the dump recording is properly configured.

Go to Option Two, Point 2. Download the .reg file and merge it in registry by double clicking it.

Wait for the next BSOD. Then Search the .dmp files manually in the default path: C:\Windows\Minidump or %SystemRoot%\Minidump. Post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions.

BTW, it it crashes before loading the desktop, it might not be recorded. So take a precaution. Free up the startup.

1. Click on the Start button
2. Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
3. Select the “Startup” tab.
4. Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
5. Apply > OK
6. Accept then restart.

Things seem to go from bad to worse. Crashed again after a few hours of gaming without any issues and when I attempted to reboot I was prompted to do a system restore. Chose the restore option and it's either staying at a black screen or the blue splash screen without anything else. I attempted to boot from disc to do the factory restore yet again and now it's telling me that my hard drive is smaller then the original. I honestly am half tempted to drive over this thing at this point.

• Bootable Seatools Scan, applicable for any HDD: Seatool for dos: SeaTools | Seagate download
  Burn it in a blank cd. boot from the CD, click on "Accept", wait for it to finish detecting the drives, then in the upper left corner select "Basic Tests", then select "Long Test" and let it run.

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.

Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.

• Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Stress test the CPU.

• Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Scan the system for possible virus infection.

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy.
Also can you dismantle the system, re-seat the cables, RAM modules, HDDs, PCI and PCIe devices and the CPU? While reseat the CPU, dont forget to apply adequate amount of thermal paste.

How old the build is? And when you did a clean reinstall for the last time?

I started off with a factory restore when my last hard drive started to seize up on me. I am unable to run any HDD tests and doubt I will be able to since it still doesn't go past the system restore. I read on another forum that HP doesn't allow multiple attempts with their system restore discs so I downloaded a Win 7 ISO from Digital River and shall try a custom install.

The only thing that gets close to being hot is the video card. The build is a little over two years old so it's just outside the original warranty. I am able to boot to the BIOS and it does recognize my HDD at it's correct size, same with my RAM.

Go for a clean install then.
But dont forget that a stop 0x124 is usually a hardware error. So from a clean reinstall, you have to keep a sharp eye that on which point you are getting the next BSOD.
