BSOD when attempting full Norton A/V scan + on latest windows update

I can run a full scan in safe mode and have checked system with an on line scan.
So I think its more of a compatibility issue with Norton itself and will just have to live with the BSOD - as its not a daily or weekly problem.

I tried the windows debugging tool, but when i loaded the dump file, msg popped up saying I need Admin rights. Could not figure out a way around that. So hoping someone here can help.

Diagnostic Test

 DRIVER VERIFIER

   Warning

Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
Please create a restore point.

Please follow this tutorial to run driver verifier.

Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

   Note

Your system will act very sluggishly while driver verifier is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

ran the driver Verifier over 2 days.
No crashes- until I disabled the verifier settings and did a reboot. Turned away a few seconds so not sure exactly when - but did see the BSOD screen. After booting up, reopened the driver verifier screen, re-checked the delete the existing settings and did a reboot. All oK. After that reboot opened the verifier screen again and it shows as 'create standard settings' - so hoping that the verifier is NOT running in the background.


Whats the next step?

Done - uninstalled then re-installed.
Did Acronis seem to be the culprit behind the BSOD?

well sorry to say, that did not last long.
Tried a Norton A/V scan and got the BSOD.
Ran another DM Log Collector- attaching here.

Seems like Acronis is still causing issues, if you would like to keep using Acronis and not wait until another update may or may not fix your issue I would recommend making a ticket with their support to get this addressed. You'll want to copy the memory dump C:\Windows\MEMORY.dmp somewhere else so it won't get overwritten in case they need it.
Don't take this to their forum, but directly to support.

From what I can tell there seems to be an issue with their ransomware protection driver, but I can't get much more out of the dump.

thanks - did submit a ticket to their tech support.
May I ask what back up program you use. I am thinking of Paragon's.
I am also a Carbonite user. Plus weekly I use Microsoft's SyncToy to copy documents and such to a hard drive.

Does the free version also have their ssd trim?
The paid home version i see also has ransom protection - bummer.
If you have the paid version, what is synthetic full technology?
Curious why your not using Paragon.

I am using the Home paid version.

I believe the free version has SSD trim feature.

Synthetic full backup is a full backup and, depending on how the backup is set, an x amount of incremental backups merged with the full backup. See Backup Folder Synchronization - KnowledgeBase v7 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase - KnowledgeBase v7 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase for a visual explanation.

Macrium is the most stable backup program that I have seen regarding system crashes is my numero uno reason. Second reason is that, AFAIK, it doesn't come bundled with other programs, like Acronis may come bundled with Comodo which in my opinion is not a good sign.

I ended up ininstalling acronis and removed all traces - as found entries for older versions.
Still not able to run a full norton scan. Contacted Norton’s tech support. Even with Acronis off my pc, I was still getting bsod and still not able to complete a full scan. We uninstalled malware bytes, super antispyware and ccleaner - as they thought those conflicted with Norton, but afterwards pc still crashed. my issue elevated up.

Norton suggested a reinstall of 7 but i thought this would be a good time to upgrade to 10 instead. I could not upgrade so ended up fresh install of 10. Installed MS office, my wifi adapter and then Norton. Tried a full scan and sure enough bsod. The error/cause was something like sysfam... ? Not really sure as before i had a chance to see full name of what caused the crash, the pc rebooted. Its now with the Geek Squad at best buy - hope they can figure it out.

Geek squad says the issue was with Start10 by stardock - as for some reason my hardware incompatible and so Norton viewed start10 as malicious. Now in search of a work around as i just dont like the look of windows 10 start menu. I am thinking of classic shell - unless you have another option.

Sorry, I have no option. Unlike many others I don't like the looks of Windows 7 and earlier and love the Windows 10 look.
