BSOD when entering Sleep mode

How do I know which is the faulty one?
Here it says it is a legitimate Windows program: What is NDIS? Also: Networking, but, here it says it is not: SystemLookup

ndis is a legacy file used to help with network installs on the dual bit Windows 7 x32, x64bit Operating Systems.
I suspect there is a conflict between the ndis, wsimdx, and AE1000 sets of files.

Let's look at the one that has given you the most problems.

~~~ ~~~~ ~~~
The only reason I can see why wsimdx.sys was installed onto your system is because it was a required file for the DSE XH9946 WLAN 802.11g PCI Adapter.
Now that you have an Adapter that was manufactured by a different vendor, that adapter has file requirements that do not require wsimdx.sys as its wireless intermediate miniport driver.
Cisco would have developed it own files for a miniport driver for the Linksys AE1000, and wsimdx.sys becomes a moot point.
Check the installation CD for the AE1000 with Explorer, I would wager a bet that you will not find any listing for a wsimdx.sys file on it.
How do I repair it?
To be on the safe side because we don't know how the removal of those three wsimdx.sys files will affect your system I would do a Move to drag, and drop to a blank CD/DVD:
  • Open Explorer.
  • Place a blank CD/DVD into your CD/DVD drive. It should appear, and under Computer (C:)
  • Go to one of the three files location in Explorer.
  • Place the mouse cursor over the file. Press the left button of your mouse, and the Shift key holding both simultaneously.
  • As you start to drag the file to the CD/DVD drive listed in the left pane of Explorer you will notice a highlight appear that says Move to, and the files name.
  • You will notice as you approach the bottom of the left pane the pane will start to scroll down, when you reach the CD/DVD drive the Move to will change, to the name of the CD/DVD drive, lift your fingers off of the button, and key.
  • You should see a dialog box open informing you that the file is being moved to the CD/DVD.
  • Go to the next file, and repeat until all three files have been moved to the CD/DVD.
  • Remove the CD/DVD from the Drive.
  • Restart your machine.
  • Run SFC /scannow at least once. If it reports that it has fixed any files run it again.
  • Observe the behavior of your machine as it approaches, and enters Sleep Mode.
If you continue to have BSOD's post another report....
If you no longer have any BSOD's your next step would be to run a malware scan. I would be through.
Try to use more than one because what one may miss another will pick up. If you are unsure of any files it picks for removal, post back, and I will try to help you decide.
If several days or a week go by without any problems you can delete those three wsimdx files, and reuse that CD/DVD.
Hey again,
There is one prolem with checking drivers on setup cd, with explorer...
I could not find any drivers on there... I attached all the files that were on the cd.
and I already deleted ONE (the one in driver's folder) wsimdx.sys once before... I made a copy of it to a usb drive and deleted the one of the system (deleted from bin as well)
I restarted the system and next thing I know is that I couldn't access the internet (new Linksys adapter). when I tried to put the wsimdx.sys on the system again, but somehow the usb drive would not work (System does not recognise or something (no error or anything)) lucky me I had a program called 'Recuva' which allowed me to restore the from bin deleted wsimdx.sys file and after a restart the internet worked again O.O
I did not delete all 3 files (just the one in C:\Windows\System32\drivers)
I did not do 'move to...'
I did not do SFC /scannow
I am writing this because im not sure if: Will the CD/DVD still work after removing those 3 files?
I am in the process of trying to understand your reply.
Hey again,
There is one prolem with checking drivers on setup cd, with explorer...
I could not find any drivers on there... I attached all the files that were on the cd.
I looked through your attachment, lets not worry about them now.
and I already deleted ONE (the one in driver's folder) wsimdx.sys once before... I made a copy of it to a usb drive and deleted the one of the system (deleted from bin as well)
You are not following my instructions.
Did you already delete one, even before I asked you to move all three?
We are in conflict, and I can not have you doing procedures without a full explanation of what, when, and in what order you have done them while I am trying to help you.
I restarted the system and next thing I know is that I couldn't access the internet (new Linksys adapter). when I tried to put the wsimdx.sys on the system again, but somehow the usb drive would not work (System does not recognise or something (no error or anything)) lucky me I had a program called 'Recuva' which allowed me to restore the from bin deleted wsimdx.sys file and after a restart the internet worked again O.O
Recuva is a fine program, I'm glad to hear you know how to work with it.
Please see my extended response to this Quote below.
No comment.
I am writing this because im not sure if: Will the CD/DVD still work after removing those 3 files?
The CD/DVD is only a backup, an image so to speak of those three files.
You would use it in case you needed to put them back where you removed them.
Extended response from above quote:
What if anything do you have that is important to you on this machine,
data, and some programs?
Copy them off, and return your machine to its original state. Meaning, do a Dell 580 factory restore.
Make sure you pull, and un-install any cards, USB devices or adapters that you installed as specified in step #2 of Dell 580 factory restore.
Then use the Decrapifier to remove any unwanted programs.
Your 580 already has on-board ethernet, use that.
Let's try to see if we can return the machine to its original state, use the Internet, and sleep without causing a BSOD.
I have deleted one of the 3 files because i thought that was how to remove it without bothering the system...
I have done this about 2 days ago... while you have asked me to move all 3 files yesterday/today so, yes I have done this before you advised me to do differently.
NOW,
should I first try to move all 3 files to a cd/dvd?
or should I skip that and start with a Dell Factory restore...
I really appreciate your help
PS: If I use Decrapifier, can I choose which programs to remove?
At this point Christian, just go ahead, and delete the other two, but make a restore point first.
Then see how sleep mode acts.
Sounds like you've decided to bite the bullet, and do one.
You don't have to. A factory restore will do a quick format before it starts the restore.
If there are programs you want to save, and still have them in a folder where you save all downloaded programs copy them over to a CD/DVD, that way will be quicker than finding the websites, and having to download them again.
It will also help to find, and save any Product Keys, especially if you purchased any.
You shouldn't have to worry about the Operating System (OS) that should automatically take care of itself.
Check the bottom of this page when your done; Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System that is where it tells you windows is activated, and genuine.
Before you start, print out the instructions. There is a print link on the Dell page under the title Windows 7 PC Restore.
Make sure you follow Step #2. Make sure you pull that new adapter card, and the old one if you left it in.
You can leave their programs installed, but pull the hardware.
As far as peripherals you have to return the machine to the state it was in when you first brought it home, the only hardware you can have connected is the monitor (display), mouse, and keyboard.
There is a slight chance that when the new OS starts up, and sees anything different than what it shipped with, it will not Activate, so make sure you you get that part right!
Hi!
Looks like my problems are solved, the Factory restore did it!
No signs of BSODs, and sleep mode works as it should!
Thankyou for you help Anak!
PS: I bought a Linksys AE1000 Adapter, but I am not fully satisfied with it.
Can anyone recommend me a really good one? I am looking for one which has top performance and it should last long!
Preferably Wireless-N (a/b/g/n) Dual band (2.4Ghz&5Ghz) Adapters
I read on the internet that USB Adapters burn out after a while so I guess my next pick would be PCI Express!
Please recommend me some products which you know has quality!!!
Thankyou :)
Hi again,
This really caught my eye: Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300
But this is a laptop card (since there are no desktop WLAN cards that suit my needs)
I read on the internet that a Mini PCI-E to PCI-E Adapter would do the trick, but I am not sure if the performance would be affected in some way.
I have also searched the internet with any possible (in my mind) combination and I couldn't find it anywhere to buy...
Please help :)
Now that your BSOD's have been corrected, and your looking for assistance with your wireless it would be best if you started posting in this Forum: Network & Sharing - Windows 7 Forums
Use this to help with setting up your initial thread: Network Posting Tips - Network & Sharing - Windows 7 Forums
Explain what you have tried, and why you are unimpressed with their performance.
  • The Altheros DSE XH9946 caused a conflict, and you definitely do not want to use that again.
  • The AE1000 doesn't seem to meet your expectations, but go into greater detail, and ask if there are any better settings you could use to improve its performance. Do they actually wear out?
  • Don't forget to post that ipconfig /all report.
  • Try the DNS Cache Flush, and see if it helps the AE1000 performance. Have you ran the AE1000 since the Factory Restore?
  • Go into some detail of where you have your machine in your home. Remember the 19 factors affecting wireless LAN performance in post #19?
  • Your up to the possibility of using a PCIe card, and ask for suggestions on what would be a good choice.
Including links to:
Dell™ Inspiron™ 580 Service Manual
Dell™ Inspiron™ 580: Comprehensive Specifications
Linksys AE1000 Support
Would be a good move, as it would help others to help you.
It's not that I don't want to help, but you would receive more insight into why your not experiencing better performance, and I can learn along with you.
I'll keep a look out in the Network forum for your new thread or you can leave a link here or VM me.
