Hey guys, I as hoping you could assist me with this.

Twice today this has happened to me. The first time early in the morning I went on youtube, and I clicked to play on a video, when I directed youtube to resize the player into a bigger version my screen turned black and dark red/golden thin lines appeared on the screen, the audio was still playing. Now, I had two monitors running, and my second monitor was still displaying my desktop with no problem, I was chatting with my girl, and I kept talking to her while I tried to fix the problem. I tried tabulating firefox away to see if it had been the cause, No go. , task manager to close it, nothing. Tried changing resolution. Nothing at all. I wasn't able to even try to restart the computer. I just pushed the power button and let go so the computer would start the shut down process.

Of course, as soon as the computer started closing programs the screen came back to normal, and then the system proceeded to shut down.

The second time which just happened not so long ago, I finished doing a long session of skyrim with my HD7770 Vapor X Overclocked version from sapphire. I went to facebook after, and saw a friend uploaded a video, so I went on to click on it, the popout loaded fine, comments came out, but as soon as the video player rendered bam. Screen went black, now with very thin brown lines . Once again, my second monitor was still displaying my desktop. This time however after a second or two, I got a blue screen displaying a faulty atikmpag.sys. I went and ran debugging tools to get the full report which I attached at the bottom of the post. And lo-and behold, it was that process causing this.

From the information I was able to find out, it seems this is caused because the recovery of the display driver failed. The card is barely two weeks old, it is overclocked past it's default overclock, but only by 50mhz, and it has been stable for the mentioned time.

I did read that this error can be caused by hardware, but other people who removed their video cards kept on encountering this error, and some others even had to do a motherboard swap, I am genuinely at a loss with how I should approach this issue.

One thing that might be worth mentioning, I installed Assassin's Creed: Revelations today, and with it, it automatically installed direct x. This is the last software change I can recall before having these video issues. I only played the game for 20 minutes before I got bored of it and didn't attempt to run it after today.

Any help would be highly appreciated. Here is the debugged file for you.

Interesting, so ever since I made this thread, I removed assassins creed, and performed a system restore from before I installed the game, and the issues mentioned above have not happened ever since.

I find it strange that this application was causing this problem. That's a pitty. I wonder if it had anything to do with the Direct X Installation the game did before setup was finished.

Scratch that. It has happened again with a new game.

It's strange, I do not see the connection, the game is installed in my secondary drive, but any game I've installed on my secondary driver after I placed my computers back up in it has caused this.
However, I do have other games installed in there that do not cause this issue whatsoever.

I'm really confused about this. I wish I could take a screenshot, but the monitor turns useless when this occurs.
