So here is the issue, ever since I built my computer I have had nothing but trouble with the Chinese crap sound card, also known as VIA. I have re-installed drivers countless times and ran countless diagnostic tools and other thing to no avail. Every time I open Volume Manager I get a portcls.sys BSOD. This is making it so I can't use my microphone on Skype, even though I set my microphone as default. Headset usually works after opening the audiodeck in VIA and resetting my headset. Is there any way to remedy this BSOD?
Specs:

Z77 Gigabyte motherboard
Intel 3570k CPU
8 GB Corsair Vengeance
VIA HD Audio

Hello and welcome simple answer theman get yourself a new card mate I use Asus Xonar DG's in all my machines and never have had so much as sniff of problems.

Maybe this Chinese brand card has got software that is incompatible with your system or it is loaded with whatever:sarc:.

http://www.asus.com/Sound_Cards_and_DigitaltoAnalog_Converters/Xonar_DG/ this is the base version and I find more than capable of driving my 5:1 system and if necessary a 7:1 system and for $30 a no brainer. Pity to spoil what looks to be a decent set up for a lousy sound card:)

Newegg.com - asus Xonar DG

I will probably end up getting a new card, but it is odd that Gigabyte would ship a motherboard with a incompatible sound card, and a Chinese one at that.

Yes mate and it might have been shipped with that card and they were unaware that it was a dud things happen I suppose because of the sheer volume they deal with.

Well thanks for the help. Guess I won't be recommending Gigabyte motherboards until they get this problem sorted out though. Asus and the other I never heard of having this problem with the same model.

One other thing I forgot to mention in the original post. The headset I am using that the mic is not working on is a USB headset. But when it is plugged in it seems to work through VIA. Would getting a new sound card fix this problem even if it is not directly going into the sound card? It seems to be controlled by the sound card though on the motherboard. Not sure.
