BSOD When playing video, error 0x0000101

Hi,

New to forums so bear with me,

I have recently bought a PC second hand so not sure of past;

Specs:

Biostar TA690G Ver5.2
AMD Athlon X64 6000+
3Gb PC6400 Ram
Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS 256Mb
Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1

I have shut off cache in CPU as blue screen states and problem stops, problem has happened in gameplay too.

After a little bit of research I have noticed that I am missing a non plug and play driver TCP/IP Protocol Driver.

Any more info please ask.

If you shut the cache off does the BSOD go away and stay away?
If so, does it come back when you re-enable the cache?
If so, then it's likely a problem with the CPU.
Start with the CPU stress tests here to prove that it's the CPU: Additional Hardware Diagnostics

Are you able to connect to the internet?
Have you installed the latest drivers for your network card(s) (both wired and wireless, if so equipped)?

You have a RT73 USB Wireless LAN Card. Win7 doesn't like these devices and will, with Vista-era drivers, spit out BSOD's until you're blue in the face! Here's my rant about these devices:

I do not recommend using wireless USB devices. Especially in Win7 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 - and using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

Please note that the wireless USB devices date from 2009 - way too old for Win7!

After trying all this, if it's still not fixed please post back for other stuff to try.

Hi Thanks for your reply, I couldn't reply yesterday as my girlfriend "doesn't like me messing around with computers all the time" lol.

Ok, so I removed the RT73 USB, uninstalled the driver for it too. Put in a new wireless card in a pci slot, I realised that I was getting BSOD when I was playing video from another computer so did this immediately.

The BSOD doesn't seem to be happening when playing video's now, either from another computer or from my own. However when I put the wireless card in my computer it knocked out my GPU driver. I removed it and put it in another slot and my GPU is working again.

I get the internet fine on this computer, even when I was using the RT73 USB wireless card.

I haven't done a CPU test as of yet as I tried to use the AMD overdrive but it says that there are no AMD products in my system even though the CPU is AMD?

I have looked at the Device Manager again and the TCP/IP driver still has the same code against it, I have tried to reinstall it before but it didn't change anything, I haven't tried it since I took out my RT73 USB should I try the process again now? I have updated all latest drivers for my netword card.

Don't worry about the AMD Overdrive. If you had it, I'd have suggested that you uninstall it (as it causes BSOD's also).

It's not telling you there's nothing AMD on the system, rather it's actually saying that there's no AMD software or drivers installed on your system (the AMD drivers for the CPU usually come from Windows Update - and for some reason AMD doesn't understand this).

Try the CPU stress tests first. If several of them pass, then try the drivers for a network card.
