Hi. Im new here, but have been reading for two days straight trying to figure out my problem. Lots of information on this site. I tend to ramble so Ill try to stick to facts here.

About a month ago I got a BSOD when opening bittorrent. I ignored it, and just stopped using bittorrent because I dont really use it much.

A few days ago I started getting BSOD when I try to open world of warcraft. It will open, and go to the login page and before I can finish logging in, bsod.

I can still play steam games, use browsers, etc.

I have scanned harddrives for errors, done multiple virus scans, trojan scans, malware scans. Updated drivers. It looks like I had a trojan last month that windows removed. I suspect it is related to this. The trojan was pws:win32/zbot, also known as Zues. Microsoft threat id#2147598479.

Ive attached the crash logs as instructed.

Thanks for any help with this, its really appreciated.

Just an update, Ive continued to read and try things. The BSOD had been happening when the wow launcher was opened, or when bittorent was opened. Ive since unistalled BT so I cant check that, but I tried a clean boot per directions somewhere here (opened msconfig, checked hide microsoft processes, and then disabled all other processess)

The wow launcher has now been running for ten minutes downloading a patch, so my problem has something to do with something run during startup. Ill have to manually try every process I think to check them.

Just something to try for other people who might have this issue. Ill report back with more once I know.

****EDIT****

Nevermind, got a BSOD again at the 10.5 minute mark of wow being open. Guess Ill start looking again.

Welcome

Your problem is McAfee. McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD crashes, consider uninstalling it with the McAfee Removal Tool and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials at least to test. Note that you already have MSE installed but keeping two antiviruses would cause conflicts anyway. is it bad to run multiple antivirus programs?
Please uninstall McAfee and see if the problem persists.

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:-

:warn: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

  • Click on the :orb:
  • Type CMD on Search
  • Left click and Run as Administrator
  • Type SFC /scannow
Full tutorial here:
Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:
Free up the start-up, nothing except the antivirus is usually needed.
Update your video card drivers:
Code:
Driver	c:\windows\system32\drivers\atikmpag.sys (8.14.1.6117, 257.50 KB (263,680 bytes), 14/01/2011 6:57 PM)
Click on the Start :orb: ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to; ATI and restart the system. Delete remnants of its drivers/older drivers using Driver Fusion/Sweeper

Update using this tool:
Let us know the results

Unistalling mcaffee seemed to solve everything. No crashes, and the whole sytem is a lot more responsive. I didnt realize how sluggish it had gotten untill now.

Im still working on running the other tests just to be safe, but everything is working really well for a few hours now.

Thanks again for all of the help.
