BSOD whenever graphics card is enabled

Hello,

My boyfriends computer has been having some problems, I know a tiny bit about computers (more than bf anyway who basically only knows how to turn it on and off haha) so have been trying to fix it but having no luck. Whenever the graphics card is enabled then the computer will BSOD on startup. The only way to get into the computer is going into safe mode, disabling the card and then restarting. On the BSOD it says "attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout failed" and the error "STOP 0x00000116" and something about "atikmpag.sys"

I've reinstalled windows from fresh multiple times and the error persists. I read somewhere else about editing the atikmpag thing and moving it or something, sorry I can't remember what exactly it was, but it didn't work. The graphics card drivers are updated and so is windows, but still the BSOD will come when drivers are enabled. The issue originally started when my bf was playing a game and it BSOD'd and wouldn't start up again

I've attached the zip file here if someone can please look at it and tell me what is wrong, do you think a new graphic card is needed as this one is dead?

You have only one dump file to look at. Dump files are what we use for debugging. Please make sure your computer is configured for Small Mini Dumps. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/174459-dump-files-configure-windows-create-bsod.html . This is what the dump file is saying

Arg2: fffff880040c9848, The pointer into responsible device driver module (e.g. owner tag).
Arg3: 0000000000000000, Optional error code (NTSTATUS) of the last failed operation.
Arg4: 0000000000000002, Optional internal context dependent data.

That is a common error and it depends on what hardware you have. But, basically it means the driver crashed and did not recover within the allotted time. The computer decides that it is a hardware failure and shuts down to protect itself. Please use some CPU and GPU monitoring programs and keep a close watch on the temps of both and let me know how they are running. Also please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

I noticed a number of Windows Update failures. Please make sure your Windows Updates are current. Please let me know the outcome of the scans and the Hardware your Boyfriend has. I will be able to help you more if I know that.

Do you have an Nvidia or an AMD card and does your Motherboard have an Nvidia chipset?​
