BSOD while alt+tabbing in games

I had a few BSODs while alt+tabbing playing WoW or Hearthstone. This has never happened prior to the last few days. I didn't catch the error codes but hopefully the log shows them.

The only changes I've made recently is updating the Intel® Ethernet Connection I217-V drivers.

EDIT: It had a weird crash where the screen went black and was still on so I manually shut it down. When I turned it back on it went into the windows repair thing and is now attempting repairs.

EDIT2: Now it won't even start without blue screening. I can only use Safe Mode. Safe Mode with networkong blue screens too. I got a USB and am ready to clean reinstall. Should I?

All the crashes are 0xF4 caused by hard drive problems, there are Input/Output errors (ioerr) in the dumps which means that the data cannot be accessed.
In safe mode you can try a few things that are probably needed.
1. Remove ASUS software, known for causing bluescreens.
2. Remove IObit software, its software isn't what you might think and Advanced SystemCare 8 causes problems.
3. Test your hard drive

   Note

Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Run chkdsk
Disk Check - Windows 7 Help Forums

Run HDTune to

• scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
• check the health,
• benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
Let me know what the results are

• of the error scan,
• make a screenshot of the health of every hard drive and post the screenshots,
• post screenshots with the benchmark of the
  • transfer rate,
  • access time,
  • burst rate,
  • cpu usage.

I appreciate your response but something happened.... I did a complete clean install (wiping HDD) and it seemed to be working perfectly while I downloaded everything. Got all the drivers (GPU and ones from Mobo's official website) and Windows Updates, it was going great. I had it all ready then I launched my game Dota 2. The sound was really scratchy and my Skype call had a static sound. After a few minutes my game and Skype crashed. The taskbar disappeared and all I saw was the desktop background and my mouse cursor.

I thought it was an audio driver issue so I restored it to before I installed the Realtek Audio drivers. Then launched my game and Skyped but the crash happened again... I lost patience and restarted, this time I only launched Google Chrome to see if it would crash while I watch a Stream. I launched Twitch and every Stream had weird symbols on it. So I went out of that and tried to launch Dota again. It gave me a "close program" error message so I closed it and launched Skype. Skype gave me an insufficient memory error message (can't remember specific error code) then it crashed again. All icons on desktop vanished and only program in start menu was "Solitaire". My sound had a muted symbol and internet had no bars red cross as if it was disabled.


I manually turned it off and decided it must be a RAM issue. I turned the PC off, unplugged it and opened it up. I reseated the RAM into the other two slots and booted it back up. Blank screen. The PC was running as normal but I wasn't getting a video signal. I made sure the cable was plugged in on both ends and even plugged it into the CPU/Mobo video port. Still nothing. I didn't hear any beeps or anything so I manually turned the PC off. I put the RAM back into original slots and tried again. Still wasn't working.

At this point I had no idea what to do. I spammed F2 on startup to go into BIOS and plugged the video into the Mobo port but still no signal. I checked the GPU and the fan was running, it was on. Now the Mouse/Keyboard won't even turn on when I start it up.

I don't know what to do. I might bring it to a computer shop and hopefully they can fix it. It's definitely a hardware issue but I'm not sure how it isn't even showing video now.

When you have seated the modules in the other slots, have you made sure it is seated properly and checked the contacts in case they have been damaged?

Yes it is seated properly I think. They are secured and the bracket clicked into place. I don't know if the contacts are damaged. I put them back into their original place and it still didn't work.

Please open the case and pull the cmos battery, this resets the settings of the BIOS but might help because it affects other things too.

I hope you had grounded yourself and pressed the power button before opening the case and seating the RAM, a few basic things for opening the case but easy to forget.

I got someone to reseat the CMOS and tried another cable, it worked. He also repaired the HDD and fixed the Ethernet and it's running perfect now. Do you think I should buy a DVI cable? The only spare I had was a VGA and I'm using that right now. I don't notice a quality difference, does it matter?

I would get a DVI cable yes, so far I've seen it is a little better.
