My computer has been BSODing for a bit now. I thought it was the video card, so I tried a different one to no avail. My computer makes a rather discomforting buzz while it locks up prior to the restart.

Uninstall the following programs, they contribute in BSOD-s. Use the free version of Revo Uninstaller in Advanced Mode:

Daemon Tools

Please uninstall DAEMON Tools. It uses a driver called sptd.sys which is known to cause BSODs in Windows 7. Uninstall the software using Add/Remove Programs. Reboot the system. Once the program is uninstalled, run sptd.sys uninstaller to remove the driver from your system.

As an alternative, many people recommend the use of Total Mounter or Magic ISO

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:-

:warn: Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

  • Click on the :orb:
  • Type CMD on Search
  • Left click and Run as Administrator
  • Type SFC /scannow

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:
Check for a newer BIOS version:

So it lasted a good deal longer than usual, but I had another crash while playing Portal 2. :/

Thoughts?

EDIT: I ran the Intel Burn Test. While I passed, my core temperature made it up to 58 degrees. Could this be the culprit?

124 is back.

Upload a screenshot of Summary tab using Speccy:
Is the computer under warranty? Check for broken CPU pins etc?

You may have to perform some hardware stress tests:

Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95
CPU - Stress Test Using IntelBurnTest
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Monitor your temps with Speccy during these tests
