I get a sporadic BSOD when browsing [Firefox] - by sporadic I mean it can be as short as 2 days, or as long as 2 weeks between events. Most recent BSOD was about 2 hours ago.

BSOD shows DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and references NETIO.SYS.

Did a memory scan and found no issues.

I got the impression from a few people that own the same laptop that it was most likely the driver for the Realtek Wireless, so I recently updated all drivers [wireless, i/o, audio, video, etc] to no avail.

I attached an SF Diagnostic zip.

Welcome to Seven Forums.

First, we want to make sure the computer is saving your dump files. Go to Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Startup and Recovery [Settings] Make sure that "Write Debugging Information" is set to Small Memory Dump (256kb) if it is not already.
Next, make sure that the folder C:\Windows\Minidump exists. If not, create it (allow permission if asked). Make sure any dumps you want to analyze, whether yours or others', are in this folder. You can ZIP/RAR the files and send them to someone else to analyze as well.

Norton is a frequent cause of BSOD's.
Please

We recommended Microsoft Security Essentials

from a strict BSOD perspective.

Is most compatible & provides best stability compared to other antivirus app/Internet Security Software.
   Warning
Do not start the free trial of Malware Bytes; remember to deselect that option when prompted.

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Perform a System File Check to check the integrity of all protected Windows 7:
  • Click Start Menu
  • Click All Programs
  • Click Accessories
  • Right click Command Prompt
  • Click Run as administrator
  • Type
  • Code:
    sfc /scannow
  • and press Enter
Full tutorial here:
Check your hard drive(s) for errors by running chkdsk:
Number down items at start-up. Keep only your anti-virus, this also improves the time for logging into windows.
  • Click on the Start button
  • Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
  • Select the “Startup” tab.
  • Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
  • Apply > OK
  • Accept then restart.

Let us know the results.

The laptop is setup to save dump files, although I have never seen the Minidump folder anything but empty.

I just purchased Norton, so it will be staying. ;-)

Malwarebytes did not find anything.

System File Check did find some corrupt files, most of which are sample music files. I attached the CBS log.

I've requested a friend to take a look at the CBS file.

Did you face such problems before purchasing norton?

I've had the laptop for about 3 years and have always used Norton Internet Security. The BSoD issue started about 2-3 months ago. I have tried several things, including those I have previously mentioned. I thought about doing a complete reformat, but really didn't want to end up wasting my time should it be something like a driver conflict. The thing with Toshiba is they tend to use modified drivers and don't keep them updated, thus making it difficult to update any drivers.

Since the issue seemed to always happen while using Firefox, I decided to uninstall and reinstall it today to see if it has any effect.

I *really* do recommend returning Norton for a refund as not fit for purpose.

The important bits of the CBS.log file are:-

I'll see what I can do about a fix protocol and post it later.

I've uploaded a file - dsdaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)
Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
At the prompt type
DIR C:\dsdaa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
DIR D:\dsdaa
or
DIR E:\dsdaa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

XCOPY <drive>:\dsdaa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

(e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time)and when the prompt returns, type
EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your SkyDrive Public folder, and post a new link

Please also run a CheckSUR scan....

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it in your reply.

I just wanted to update the thread.

I have not had a BSoD event since 3/22. So far, all I did was the driver updates, System File Check, which repaired some files, and uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox [Firefox is faster now than it was before uninstalling].

Granted, its only been a week, but I did want to see what effect, if any, what I have done has.

No. I wanted to see if the other things I did worked. Unfortunately, it just happened again. This time, however, I managed to get a dump file and would appreciate it if someone could have a look at it.

Probably caused by tcpip.sys.. I would recommend uninstalling Norton as a test.

Ya. I hate doing it that way but I also don't like to put a whole lot into trial and error when it comes to computers. Recoveries are almost painless. ;)
