With respect, I don't think you are ready for tackling BSOD's.

You have been around long enough to have noticed that MemTest86+ is the only reliable RAM testing software - nothing else comes close. Let me make it very clear : there is nothing else you can use to give a reliable test result.

Google USB thumb drive...see what you come up with.

If you aren't willing to try anything, mark this thread solved and purchase a new CPU if you so choose.

Dude; its got nothing to do with not being willing to try anything. And no I did not end up having to buy one and i wouldnt have bought a new one anyways because the current one is still under warranty and they agreed to send me a replacement without charging me. You know you dont have to sound like you are having a bit of a attitude toward me man. There is no place for that here. And as for the paste; that will be taken care of anyways. Dont act like im stupid because I know more about computers than you may think I do. just because im not a 100% "know it all" doesnt mean I dont know anything. There is plenty I do know still.

Let me try and help you save money one last time:

1. You have assumed a 0x124 bugcheck means your CPU is broken - there is no concrete evidence to prove that yet
2. Thermal paste can be poorly applied, and the problems may not be evident for some time
3. The bugcheck may well be memory-related - all hardware bugchecks report 0x124 codes
4. To test RAM we ALWAYS use MemTest86+ - there is NO alternate
5. MemTest86+ can be installed/run from a USB thumb drive
6. A USB thumb drive is the same as a USB flash drive
7. A cheap USB thumb drive costs $2 - a CPU costs lots more

It makes more financial sense to spend a few dollars on thermal paste and a USB flash drive to test the obvious, rather than spend lots more on a CPU, only to later discover your BSOD is related to something else.

If you don't understand that, then all I can do is to wish you good luck.

If 0x124 bugchecks are not always cpu related then why did the "TheDoctor" come to to the conclusion that it was in fact my cpu that was failing based on the dump files that i uploaded and he looked at? I already know about memtest; but can not do that until i get a flash drive at some point of which im not sure when i will get to it; which begs the ? why isnt there a program out there that can just be system-run rather than having to get a flash drive to do it? Also; the cpu is being replaced under warranty as mentioned previously so that part is done i believe. One last thing; as for the thermal paste; yes i already know about that. Im gonna have to take the fan off to get to the cpu anyways so I will just scrape the old stuff off and reapply new stuff.

I believe he said it was failing because it wouldn't complete the tests you were trying, that being said, warranty or not a change of thermal paste being a quicker and cheaper option is a logical step to try.

If you then continue to have problems you at least know you tried the quicker, cheaper, option first to rule out what may have been a simpler fix.

Memtest86+ is not run within windows for a reason, it is testing your ram without windows using it for a more true and accurate test, that is why it is the gold standard for testing ram.

I never said 0x124 bugchecks always mean the CPU is failing, you said the Intel Burn In test and Prime95 failed pretty much instantly which is a very strong indication something is wrong with the CPU.
But Golden is trying to help even more by picking up what I missed by trying to save you money rather than rushing to buy a new CPU.
Like he said, thermal paste and a USB flash drive is dirt cheap so I recommend trying those first.
Alright it might not fix your issue but for a few dollars it's worth it because a CPU is expensive.

Again as I said before; they are already sending a new CPU to me at no charge. And yes since it did fail the stress tests as I got bsods within 30 seconds then yea I'm sorta inclined to believe that it very well could be CPU related. As far as the memtest goes I will certainly try once I get a flash drive which won't be til next week at which point I will run it and see what happens. As for the thermal paste I will check that when I go to put the new CPU In place.

On another note; golden; I'm sorry that I pointed you out before. I am just sorta aggravated beyond words as my system has worked fine for 2 years since I first put everything together and now this. Even for a person that's a computer nerd like myself; there are still certain things that when stuff hits the fan so to speak it hits the fan. And to add to it(and granted this has nothing to do with it but still is the same principle sorta) my downstairs tv took a dump on me and has been that way for 2 months so I've been pissed about that. Again no offense to you golden .

Well folks; it appears to be good news!; it looks as if the bsod's i got which TheDoctor thought may have indicated a failing cpu was right on the money. Got the new cpu today; installed it; put new thermal paste on; powered it back up; just ran a partial prime 95 stress test; and after 21 minutes of testing....no bsod's!. Im elated. It looks like thanks goes out to TheDoctor for helping me solve this one. And the others too. Im marking this one problem solved for now as it appears to be solved. Im still gonna let it run a thorough stress test till it ends though to make sure. At this point im almost 100% certain its wasnt the ram and it was the cpu that was bad.

Not necessarily.....it may simply have been the thermal paste that required re-application on the old CPU. This was the point I was trying to make.

Since you never tried applying new thermal paste with the older CPU, you don't actually know whether the old CPU was in fact broken.

Well I still believe it was the CPU because it was also a lot more responsive when I put the new CPU in; in terms of response speed and overall speed etc. As far as the older CPU goes golden; I just didn't want to take a chance on it. It was replaced under warranty so I didn't have to pay anything for it. I honestly don't think it was the thermal paste that helped that part. With getting the temps back under control; yes the new paste definitely helped there but as far as the CPU goes I believe it was the CPU because before it wouldn't even do stress tests.

CPU's don't work properly when the TPM is an issue. All the symptoms you described could be a result of the TPM.

Understandable; but whats done is done. And the problem/issue is now resolved. So; lets just leave it at that shall we. yes, you are probably right; the thermal paste being degraded can result in a cpu not working properly. But; I just didnt want to risk it; which is why; while i could get it replaced under warranty; I figured i would grab the chance before the warranty period ends.
