BSOD while downloading

i recently purchased a HP dv7 with W7 Home Premium x64 installed.

while i am happy most of the time with the new OS (i used Wxp untill then), the frequent BSODs are starting to get annoying.
i tried to analyse the minidunp files myself with the Windbg tool.
in one of the dump files the problem seemed to be the HP Wireless LAN driver. after updating this driver, the BSOD's got less.

My feeling is that the BSODs have something to do with a combination of usenet / newsleecher (software) and downloading large amounts of files.

I zipped the recent BSODs and hope someone can guide me through the process.

Additional info:
i am planning to upgrade to W7 Ultimate x64 soon.

regards

Welcome to SF!

I suspect Norton is causing the problem, or at least contributing to it. Uninstall it completely in Programs and Features, and then run this removal tool: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

Then download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.

Let us know how it turns out.

Try uninstalling the drivers completely, and install a fresh copy.

In addition, run a memory test. Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and run at least 5 passes.

The system just crashed 3 times in a row.
No downloading was in progress.

I will remove and update both the (W)LAN drivers.

thanks

I also tried the Driver Verifier tool and it produced a BSOD right after starting the Verifier.
it hangs on creating the dumpfile.

Booted again and think i ruled out more options.
The BSOD occurs not while downloading but while unRARing large files (7Gb+).

I used the 32bit but also the 64bit version of winrar.
will try another piece of software now.

Anymore clues about the Driver Verifier?

Thank guys

I can't tell too much from that dmp as far as drivers goes. Do read this article on your bugcheck: BSOD Index

Update your BIOS if you can find an update.

Update or remove these old drivers. Use Google to help you if you're not sure what they are.

theres three crashes in your last submission , 0x7f and two 0x0a which both point to ntkernel or memory errors normally caused by bad device drivers but also can be caused by Incompatible Hardware and Software ?

this all confirms what JK has already said

hardware faults are going to be bad CPU motherboard or ram but before you go down the road of stressing your hardware I suggest you get all drivers up to date and make sure Norton is fully unninstalled using the norton removal tool ?

regarding old software the BugCheck A suggests memory_corruption
Code:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
which could be old drivers especially 2007 or older that pre-date windows 7 release ?

these drivers are old and need replacing

I am having difficulties finding the drivers online.
is there any other way for a source for these drivers? tips anyone?

This version of "W 7 Home Premium 64" was pre-installed on my new laptop.
As i want to install the professional version or ultimate. Would anyone recommend me doing this first rather then trying to update these drivers?

Please advice, many thanks.

If you want to do a clean install, go for it, rather than update drivers. A clean install will wipe out the old drivers.

back again people.

fresh install, W7 ultimate.
Some tasks which caused the BSOD (unzipping LARGE files) does NOT cause BSOD anymore, yeah!!

But ... :-( i still got 2 freezes and one BSOD. It showed another error.
Perhaps this one is different?

Can anyone shed their professional light on the most recent dumpfile?

much appreciated!

regards,
Taz

It looks like either bad RAM or a device driver.

Update this old driver:

Update your USB drivers as well, or uninstall them and install a fresh copy.

    Timestamp: unavailable (00000000)

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder. Boot from the CD, and run at least 5 passes.
