Solved BSOD while gaming only Hal.dll+12a3b, 0x124

Hi,

ive been getting these BSOD's for a while now, but only when playing certain games(Mostly HoN, Dota2, WoW, assassins creed etc) they never happen when im using the PC for other requirements.

I've tried re seating the RAM/Vid card etc, nothing helps. I even open it up weekly and clean out the dust from it.

Im currently in the process of removing on certain RAM modules and will try my older video card as well.

My system specs are as follows :

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Intel Core i7 920 @2.67 Ghz

RAM : 12gb DD3

GFX : Nvidia GTX 460 cyclone

MB : Msi X-58 Pro E

1. Your .dmp file shows a stop error of 0x124 which is a general hardware error .

A "stop 0x124" is fundamentally different to many other types of bluescreens because it stems from a hardware complaint.

Stop 0x124 minidumps contain very little practical information, and it is therefore necessary to approach the problem as a case of hardware in an unknown state of distress

Some generic advice.

If you are overclocking STOP. Return to the default settings at least for now.
If you are running a RAID update its driver.

2. Avast can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S .
Please remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

Hey thanks for your response, i had already tried all that before posting here. (Thanks to google search, took me to that post)

ive finally figured out that my RAM was causing this problem.

Vengeance™ — 4GB Single Module DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9)

x3 running on triple channel.

if anyone has any expertise on this subject, can you tell me if putting it on alternate slots and forcing it to not work on triple channel will fix the problem?

I assume its causing crashes because they may not be completely in sync cause they are not from a triple channel kit.
