BSOD while playing any source engine games

Like the title implies, I can only play a source game for about 20-30 minutes, and then a blue screen out of the blue(lol). I know its the nvlddmkm.sys error, this I have confirmed. But i re installed windows 7, re-installed the graphics drivers. And just to make sure it wasn't the video card itself i installed new nonconductive coolant (arctic silver) and ran the furmark benchmark stress test (my card reached about 80C and sat there for 5-ish minutes before I closed out, but did not blue screen during the process). It does not do this with any other game, just CS:GO and TF2. I'll also be attaching the dump logs I created using the dm log collector tool.

Every dump file I checked is the same error.

Your video drivers are crashing and not recovering in the allotted time. If you have switchable graphics, that can be an issue.
Reinstall your video drivers using the Manufacturer's drivers and see if that helps. Be sure to clean out the older drivers before installing.

Make sure all of your Windows Updates are installed and that you have the latest Direct X installed. You can find the lates version here, How to install the latest version of DirectX

Also please open an elevated command prompt ( click start, type cmd in the search box, right click on the cmd entry and select run as administrator) in the black box that opens, copy/paste sfc /scannow. If you decide to type it, notice the space between the sfc and the /. It is a system file checker which will scan your system files and attempt to correct any missing or corrupt files. What we want are the results to say windows found no integrity violations. If it says files were found but could not be repaired, close the box, reboot and run it again, after opening the administrative command prompt. You may have to reboot and run it three times for it to repair all system files. If it can't repair them after 3 reboots, let us know.

thanks for the response. I cleared out the old Nvidia drivers and reinstalled them, im running the sfc /scannow command and we shall see what that turns up. I will also install the latest version of directX, and keep you posted.

Quick edit: I also made sure that windows is updated.

ok so I ran the sfc command, all good on that front, i reinstalled the graphics drivers, made sure directX was up to date, made sure windows was up to date, and I just tried to play TF2 again, and blue screened within five minutes. I can upload the dump files again but I have a feeling they are the same as before. Is there any other way besides fur mark I can test out my graphics card to see if its the card itself, i'm afraid I dont have another mobile graphics card to test it out with atm.

alright I benchmarked my card it got back up to 80 C again and I let it run for a few more minutes, and no blue screen. I'm at a total loss as to what it could be

I wasn't overclocking anything and I tried the directX 8.1 thing, still didnt work. Im gonna see if I can place an order for a new graphics card and see if that helps.

shotgunthoughts, I would check with the company you bought the Laptop from and first make sure it can be replaced. Many laptops can't be replaced without a whole lot of work. Many are soldered in. If it can be fairly easily replaced, I would see if they may work out some way for you to try a new card, rather than buying one. Are you sure your Power Brick is working properly?

I'm much more familiar with desktops than Laptops. But, Unless you have a Piece of software with drivers that conflict with your Graphics driver, it is normally the drivers, the card, the Power supply or the Motherboard.

I imagine you have, but if you Google Source Games such as the ones you are playing, you will find numerous problems exactly the same as you are having. A lot of times it is just the game being poorly coded. I have had that happen to me several times. It was simply the game crashing. When a game crashes, naturally the Graphics drivers crash too.

Try this, but I wouldn't completely disable it in device Manager at first. It should take the Nvidia Graphics out of the equation. Sure, you won't get near the performance you had, but you may find out whether it is the card or not.

First set the integrated graphics as preferred .....

  1. Open Nvidia control panel.
  2. Click on "Manage 3D settings".
  3. Click on the button below "Preferred Graphics Processor"
  4. Change it to "Integrated graphics"from the drop down menu.

    IntegratedGraphicsin3DSettings_zps6be37eaa.jpg
  5. Apply it.
Now restart the computer.

Now, disable nvidia graphics card in the device manager.

  1. Click on the start button.
  2. Type Device Manager in the search bar.
  3. Click on the resulting link. The Device Manager window will open.
  4. The third one should be "Display Adapter". Expand it by clicking on the "►" in front of it. Your nvidia card name will be shown.
  5. Right click on it. Choose "Disable" in the context menu.
  6. A dialog will appear with some scary words. Dont be afraid. Click on "Yes" .
  7. Restart the computer.
Hopefully the nvidia display is out of use now, and so there will not be any further chance of graphics switching.

Let us know how the computer is running after doing it.
