Solved BSOD - whocrashed points to cdd.dll and kernel

Well that's not great news but knowing what's wrong is better than not knowing.

YoYo, What do you mean don't spend more on this platform? I was hoping I could get replacements for the motherboard and cpu and put that in my existing case with ssd/psu/optical drives/etc components.

I am thinking about an i7 but haven't pinned down a motherboard yet mostly because I don't know how much I should spend (is a $350 mobo that much better than a $150 one?)

That is exactly it, when I said the platform I meant the motherboard, everything forms to it eventually.
You can get a lot of "leftover" Ive-bridge core i(3-5-7) 3xxx CPU+Motherboard combo for really cheap, depending on where you live of course.
Why do you need an i7 for? What is you usage case?
350$ for a motherboard is a lot IMHO.

I live in the US (northwest) and mostly am looking on newegg or other dealer sites for components...probably gonna have to wait for a sale or promotion.

I want an i7 because I want something that will last me for a while. This last setup is from 2009 so it had a solid 4 years of just working. I'd rather invest in a quality motherboard and a latest-gen processor and then not have to upgrade for another 4 years.

Intel has a good reputation for quality and my current build is using an AMD cpu so I figured I'd try both so I have first-hand knowledge for future builds. I don't have anything against AMD as this current system has been great for years.

I guess it's fine to mark this solved. Thank you all for your help in attempting to diagnose this problem. I learned a ton and that's really what's most important, anyway.

If anyone has any suggestions for builds or motherboards let me know.

Thanks again everyone

As you said:

I'm sorry it turned out that way but at least a its has completed a full circle :) .

Good luck in your new build!
