Just about to leave out the door but wanted to ask one question before I go.

I am going to burn the ISO using ImgBurn and it says this:

The part in red .. is in red. Is that a problem for this file? This ISO is only 1/15 Mb on disk... Oh wait .. F is my "My Book" (External Drive) that I save all files I want to keep on. So should I move the ISO to C first before burning? I am not sure what that part in red is saying really. So just asking for clarification before I proceed.

Is F :\ your flash drive if it is . Your drive should be NTFS not fat32 for the ISO to fit . What is the ISO you trying to burn? Show a PrntScrn of your disk management in device manager .

The only drive that is Fat32 is the external drive. All the others are NTFS. I have a 600 Gb external "My Book"

I burned the .iso image to a CD.

Never reformatted the external. It is used just for backup.

Anyway I rebooted and it seems that the Video driver AMD VISION Engine CC is working.

Tonight while I sleep I will run Memtest. I just reboot with it in the drive right because it is a boot disk? How long does it take to do a Memtest?

You don't have to format the hard drive to convert it from fat32 to NTFS .

On an Asus motherboard I believe if you press on ESC you should get a one time boot menu use the device that has the memtest program and let it run over night . If you get any errors when you wake up the next day you will want to test his memory one at a time on each slot of the motherboard .

Reading up more and found out that my mobo should come with a program already that would make updating the BIOS easier... It is called EZ Flash 2 and to access it I guess I am to press [ALT] + [F2] right after POST to get a screen that looks similar to this (old picture from the net):

Someone else had just updating the BIOS on theirs just last year and they had no problem so that put me more at ease. I have been quite nervous about this even though I know as long as I have your guidance that it should be okay. I think it is just that if I screw up then I have no way to get back on here to ask for help.

Have you heard of this EZ Flash 2 program? I know I have an old mobo but I am hoping that there is a newer version out there and hoping this will make updating the BIOS easier. What do you think? I came to this by searching why AFUDOS seemed so hard to get working for me. According to that site, AFUDOS is used via floppy drive and can only be used for BIOS files up to a size of 1 MB due to the limited storage capacity. However, my Floppy drive doesn't work. Is there a way to rename my drives and trick it into thinking the flash drive is A? Is that possible? If not then the only way I could think of is EZ Flash 2. That is why I am asking this.

I don't know if I need to get a newer version of EZ Flash... looks like it comes with the mobo?

Preparation:

1. Document all your preferred BIOS settings (i.e. the settings you have changed from the default setting).
2. Download the BIOS file, which normally is compressed (zipped).
3. Extract (unzip) the BIOS file to a FAT/FAT32 formatted USB Flash Disk with only one partition (or to a Floppy Disk or a CD-ROM). If the unzipped BIOS file is named like e.g. 'P5B-ASUS-Deluxe-1101.ROM', you can rename it to 'P5BD1101.ROM'. Otherwise a truncated name will appear as 'P5B-AS~1.ROM' due to a limitation to max 8 characters in the filename (8.3).

6. Press (tap) <DEL> during POST (Power-On Self Test) to enter BIOS Setup.
7. Load BIOS Defaults (press <F5>).
8. Insert the USB Flash Disk containing the BIOS file P5BDxxxx.ROM. (Note that the USB Flash Disk has to be inserted before boot to enter BIOS, otherwise it won't be detected).
9. Save and Exit <F10>. (BIOS will now restart).
10. During BIOS restart, press <DEL> to enter BIOS Setup again.
11. Under Tools menu, select ASUS EZ Flash 2. It may take 20 seconds for the drives to show up. Select a drive in the left pane <Tab>. Use <Up> and <Down> arrows and <Enter> to select a drive. If you don't see the BIOS file in the right pane, check the other drives. Note that the drive letters may not be the same here as in Windows.
12. Select the BIOS file (e.g. P5BD1101.ROM) and press <Enter> to start flashing. Supervise the update, which includes the following stages: Erasing - Flashing (writing) - Verification. BIOS will automatically restart when the update is ready.
13. Disconnect the USB Flash Disk before/during the restart.
14. Perform a C.P.R. (CPU Parameter Recall) which resets the chipset. Power down, remove power cord from the PSU for 2 minutes and then power up.
15. Enter BIOS and load BIOS Defaults <F5> again.
16. Reenter your preferred BIOS settings - if you are using AHCI or RAID mode, don't forget to set the SATA mode to [AHCI / RAID]. Also remember the settings for other controllers, Audio and Memory Voltage. Check also that the Boot Device Priority is correct.
17. Save and Exit <F10> (automatic restart).
18. Press <DEL> to enter BIOS Setup and make a final check that all BIOS settings are ok. Save any changes

Also does the Bios update have to be the only file on the flash drive and on the main directory?

You could do it that way . Place the .ROM file into a FAT32 USB flash drive . While the PC is booting up you could get to EZ flash 2 two ways .

:ar: Tabbing the [Delete] key while the pc is booting up to get into the bios once inside go to Tools and choose AZ FLASH 2

Back up your USB Flash Drive cause it will be formatted

The # is the number of your Flash Drive . If you have one Internal Hard drive and no other hard drive is plugged in including external drive the USB FLASH DRIVE is DISK 1 . List volume command is to verify if the USB has been set to Fat32. It will be listed under FS

Oh awesome! Thank you! That is VERY helpful!! Doing that now Should I do the memtest before or after doing the Bios update? I didn't want to use my usual flash drive as it is 65% full but I did have an old 126Mb flash drive laying about that still works. Just had a printer driver on it that I can remove since the power on it died and I can format this.

According to this my FlashDrive is on Disk 8
