How are the drives connected? Sata, Raid or something else?

Just Sata. Since the last bunch of crashes with the ssd disk read error I've ended up stable again with the hd disconnected, despite the crashing with just the ssd earlier.

How many ports exactly are there and which are in use?

There is a total of 8, the 2 in use are labeled Sata 3Gb/s.

I am no hardware expert, so I ask why you don't connect them onto the other ports?
4 of them are faster and so we can find out if it is a faulty port we are dealing with.

I'll try plugging them into different ports and see if anything changes.

edit: already crashed once after changing ports.

What device was switched from port and what port?

Oh, yeah. I have a mouse, keyboard, and headset connected. I changed the SSD/HD plugs from Sata 3Gb/s to Sata 6Gb/s.
