I have a Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 and I can connect it and install all the drivers but when I go to use it I get a BSOD, this has happened with all builds so far accept for I think it was build 6936 x64, also windows update gave me a driver which I installed with the same result.

Has anyone else tried a web cam or had any problems and if so have you found any solutions?

its a continual ''work in progress''....
I have the lifecam vx 6000 and it works fine on my copy of win7 build 7000 32bit and has always worked on the previous versions...

i wish it would install the drivers for it automatically instead of having to load up the lifecam program tho thats pretty annoying...

I sent Feedback on the problem, so I hope this doesn't get overlooked as Microsoft may be very embarrassed if the thousands of people who have one of these Cams are not able to use Microsoft own products without a BSOD, it would certainly not do there reputation any good.

Well at least they have that one working which is good because I was wanting to upgrade to that one.

Doubt it - remember, I am still steaming about buying a KB in June 2007, then less than a year later building a new machine, moving to Vista x64 - and not being able to use the fingerprint reader anymore.

M$ has no qualms about relegating their (even relatively new) hardware to legacy status.

I have a LifeCam VX 3000 and I get an error when it tries to install the driver. Very weird. It was working on my 64bit version of Vista but not on Windows 7 Build 7000 64bit.
I'm trying to find a solution, otherwise back to vista.

To install the driver go to device manager and do a driver update on your device and select your install disc location and it will find the drivers and install them, I had that problem too and that is what worked for me.

That worked thanks. Weird how the old drivers off the install cd work but the new ones from the website don't.

So in your device manager is it showing any devices as faulty or are all your drivers installed correctly?

I have a Microsoft VX-3000 webcam and I can't use it with Windows 7 Beta. BTW it works with XP and Vista.
I used the MS setup CD to install my webcam and I succeeded only the 3rd time, when I started setup in Vista compatibility mode. At the end everything looked fine, there was no error report and the device manager sees no problem. But when I start Microsoft Lifecam or want to switch on video in Skype then my PC crashes.
I don't know if this is a driver issue or not. Anyhow: the installed driver is version 5.12.1.49. When I try to update the driver it says driver is up to date.
Any suggestions ? Thanks

It seems this is becoming a big issue and I can only suggest that everyone sends feedback to Microsoft about it and hope they can make a fix for it.

I am suprised because I use the VX-1000 too and my cam is recognised by Lifecam - after all Lifecam is the software specifally for the VX- range. [also the new Messenger 2009].

Are you using the Lifecam v2.9 beta?

(I Don't use Skype so not sure there.)

Thanks, artnada, for your proposal. Now my webcam works under Windows 7. Using Lifecam v2.9 was a good idea. But in addition I had to download MS Live Messenger (which I wanted to avoid) and I had to change my Skype to version 4.0 beta. That meant downloading and installing altogether more than 200 MB software, not speaking of the time spent before with looking for a solution.
Microsoft promised not long ago, that Windows 7 will not demand newer than Vista drivers for your devices. Now a simple webcam (sold under their brand) shows that this is not true. I have a bad feeling about the future of my other devices.
