Solved BSOD without the BSOD cause I lose input to monitors

Hi everyone,

for the last week or so my computer has been crashing whether I'm browsing the internet or playing Overwatch. Sometimes when I'm playing Overwatch the sound will continue on, I can hear myself activating abilities even though I have lost input on my monitor, other times I know it has completely crashed right away.

When I check the event viewer I get a bugcheck 0x00000117 every time it crashes (I will attach dump files)

Things I have tried :
- Used one graphics card at a time in both pci slots on my board
- used only two of my four sticks of RAM at a time
- checked my C drive for errors
- Clean installed AMD drivers

I'm thinking my next step would be a clean install windows 7

   Warning

Programs that claim to update your drivers install either the wrong or corrupted drivers.
If you have installed any driver with TweakBit Driver Updater, please remove them as it may cause trouble.

An easy way to get rid of the drivers is by using a restore point prior the use of the program.

Please visit Windows Update and install every update available, except for Windows 10 update, it may take a couple of times to get them all.

Used Tweakbit after my issues. I also cleaned Installed windows 7 so I'm pretty much 100% sure it's hardware related.

I also removed my overclock and am currently using only one card. Instead of losing signal whenever it crashes which is less frequently now it's just a frozen screen.

It does not matter when you have used Tweakbit, what does matter is that you remove all the change and the software.

Update your system and remove the software & changes of the software, then let me know how it goes.

It was crashing with a fresh windows installed, the same crash as before when I didn't have tweak bit. Tweak was just recent, crash was happening before the clean install of windows without it, after the clean install without it and now with it.

How soon occured a crash after you installed Windows?

Did you rush installing drivers/software after installing Windows again? With 'rush' I mean if you started doing so immediately after Windows was installed.

Nope, it crashed with only windows updates, chrome and avg installed. Using one video card and no overclock appears to make it happen less frequently however now the crash usually comes in the form of a freeze

Uninstall any 3rd party AV and use MSE instead

Please check in Google Chrome if hardware acceleration is enabled:

1. In the right upper corner, click on {setting image} and choose settings.
2. Scroll down and click on 'advanced settings', scroll all the way to the end of the settings.
3. In the part 'system' is the option to enable/disable hardware acceleration.
4. If this option is enabled, disable it and let me know how it goes.

Hardware acceleration makes Google Chrome using hardware to execute some functionality faster than possible with software, this however could sometimes cause problems.

Hardware acceleration has been off. only have Microsoft security essentials now and problem is sadly still occurring

Yes, problem is still the same, freezes about once or twice daily, without creating a dump file

A freeze is NOT the same as a BSOD.
Only a BSOD creates a dump, a BSOD is the ONLY crash where Windows can prevent (more) corruption because Windows can respond to this crash.

For freeze problems you better start a new thread at the performance forum.

I understand its two different things, but I'm almost certain it's the same issue. before it would only write a dump file without showing a BSOD, now it's not doing either. my computer froze in quick successions last night, however at one of the crashes it restarted itself promptly, the other two were the usual. When I restarted my computer today I was prompted to reset BIOS settings because of an issue with the clock.

You are also almost certain the problem is hardware related, so lets check the hardware

 CPU TEST

   Warning

Your CPU temperatures will rise quickly while under this stress test. Keep a keen eye on them and abort the test if overheating occurs.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

TWO

 RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 7 Help Forums

   Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Make a photo of the result and post it please.

Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.
If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

THREE

 HDD TEST

Run SeaTools to check the integrity of your HDD. SeaTools for DOS and Windows - How to Use - Windows 7 Help Forums
Run following tests

1. Short Drive Self Test
2. Short generic
3. Long generic

If the short generic fails, no need for the long generic.

   Note

Do not run SeaTools on an SSD as the results will be invalid.

Post screenshots/photos of the test results

Run chkdsk
Disk Check - Windows 7 Help Forums

Run HDTune to

• scan for errors, no quick scan but full scan
• check the health,
• benchmark.

It may take some time, but please take the time you need to perform it properly.
When above is done please make screenshots of the following

• the error scan,
• the health,
• the benchmark incl. following
  • transfer rate,
  • access time,
  • burst rate,
  • cpu usage.

FOUR

 GPU TEST

Run Furmark to stress test your GPU. FurMark - GPU Stress Test - Windows 7 Help Forums

   Note

Run Furmark for around 30 minutes.

   Warning

Your GPU temperatures will rise quickly while Furmark is running. Keep a keen eye on them and abort the test if overheating occurs.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

I've completed all the steps except for the memtest, those results I'll have in the morning.

Also I've been noticing lately it happens more frequently when I'm watching a full screen show online, more so than when I'm actually running games, not sure what to make of that.

It looks like your GPU is overheating, 90C is too hot.
From the screenshot the fan is at 58%, is it possible to boost that a little?
