BSOD

All of a sudden, a laptop I've had for a year is crashing every 30 seconds. It's a eMachines e627 with Win 7 Home Premium and 2G memory (which causes me problems when I have multiple programs open but has never caused a crash to my knowledge). I have not installed anything new for at least a week, and nothing other than updates to TurboLister (an eBay listing program) for weeks. I never click on strange links or download programs from strange sites. Following are the error messages Windows saved from the last crash:

Sure hope someone can tell me what to do - I'm not a programmer so I need "click on this and do that" simple directions.

I was actually surprised I was able to post that without crashing. I forgot to add that the first crash came when I was online with my local library, requesting books. Subsequent crashes have come when I was working in MS Word 2007 and playing two separate games (Farm Frenzy 3 and Oriental Dreams, if that matters - both have been on my computer for at least 3 months).

Please follow the steps provided I am no good with BSODs, but following these instructions will help you get helped

The BSOD posting instructions require a greater level of computer expertise than I possess (and more trust). I'm not going to download and run a program from a strange site, especially one that requires administrator permission! I don't have a zip utility. (Have never needed one before now.) perfmon/report did not produce a viewer, it produced a "no files found by that name" message.

Win7 Home Premium was the OEM on this laptop which I purchased a year ago. 64 bit. I have not reinstalled anything. I tried to open the .dmp file from the latest crash with Wordpad, figuring I could copy-and-paste into this message, but the system wouldn't let me open it. I also wasn't allowed to open the .xml file referred to in the crash message. So I guess I'm just SOL.

Your concerns re the expertise level required are understandable, as too are the concerns of d/ling and executing files from an unknown source.

However Jcgriff2 is a respected and reputable of many tech forums.

This site is also reputable and as such would not allow any links to any files that are nefarious and/or could harm your computer.

Actually you do. There is a built in zip utility within Windows.

navigate to C:\Windows\minidump\xxxx-xxxx-xx.dmp

right click on the dump file > select 'send to > Compressed (zipped) folder which will zip the *.dmp file into a .zipped file.

Upload this .zip file

You need sepcialized viewers to read crash dumps.

So I guess I'm just SOL.

If you wish our help, you will have to trust the JCGriff tool. We need to look at your dumps and and look at the system information the tool provides. We need to see what device drivers are loading and their dates. We would be glad to help you and we enjoy helping folks; but the information you provided tells us nothing other than you have a hardware/hardware related problem. Just look at some of the threads here in this section and you can readily see why we need that information.

The matter of trust goes two ways. We have to trust that your OS is legitimate and not pirated.
