BSOD

Hello,

A couple days ago I was minding my own business when I got a BSOD. I hadn't downloaded anything. The only thing I can remember doing was watching Youtube... lol. After that I wasn't able to log into Windows without almost immediately getting the blue screen error. Sometimes though, like right now for instance, it will let me log into my Windows account without the blue screen, however some things don't work properly. For example, Google Chrome (my main internet browser) won't load any webpages. It just stays blank and white and then crashes. I'm using Internet Explorer because it still works.

As for the laptop itself, it's an HP Pavillion dv4-1465dx. I bought it like July 2009. The original OS was Windows Vista Home Premium when I purchased the laptop and then once Windows 7 64bit came out they sent me the upgrade disc. I don't remember the exact date I installed 7 but it was within the first month of it coming out.

If you wish to have others assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
* Briefly describe the problem history and circumstances in the same post. Somebody will attend to your query as soon as possible.

I looked at your four most recent dumps. Each of them is a different error code and each blames a Windows system driver, which is very unlikely to be the real cause. All four indicate memory corruption. This means you will have to troubleshoot by a process of elimination.

First, uninstall Norton using this removal tool: [/FONT]Tool. Norton is a known cause of BSOD's on some Win 7 systems and Norton was in involved in the crashes I looked at. Download and install Microsoft Security Essentials in its place and make sure Windows firewall is turned on. You can try Norton again after you get your system stable; but I do not recommend doing so.

Second update the drivers below. Out of date drivers can and do cause memory corruption and BSOD's. The drivers in red font are quite out of date.

- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).

Thanks for your help and I will update the drivers as directed. Also I included the Windows NT6 BSOD jcgriff2 folder and the html file, also. Okay just posted the correct zip file now. SO sorry for being so computer illiterate. This zip file is the correct file with the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder with the perfmon. I changed the one above also. Sorry and thanks >_<

So, either there's a driver on this system that is messing with the ATA bus, or perhaps one of the actual drives is no longer responding to ATAPI requests. Have you tried booting without any CD or DVD drives attached to the system to see if it repros?

I would also suggest installing the latest msahci driver for Windows 7, as this could very well be the problem described in KB 982667.
