Bsod

Hi guys,

I am getting lots of bsod's recently, especially when i "stress" the pc, like when using chrome(multiple tabs) or watching a HD movie with splash pro. The bsod's became very frequent in the last 2-3 days. Any help would be appreciated.

Mostly I receive the Irql_not_less_or_equal or page fault in nonpaged area.

Memory corruption probably caused by a driver. please run these two tests



1-Memtest. Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.



2-Driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Yeaa..., I forgot to mention, I already did the memory test several times before, but i redone it today, 3 passes, no errors, what else could it be? I scanned the hard drive with the utility from the manufacturer site(WD), no bads, nothing.

Just got a new BSOD, it said MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, never had this one before.

I did 3 passes on the ram only that day, had done 6-7 passes before, no errors, I've tested the ram individually and in different slots, no errors, however problems only seem to occur when running in dual channel(BSOD i mean, still no errors in dual channel in memtest), I have no problem in single channel, also there is a problem during "windows loading bar", the computer freezes, this was happening before, I've searched the net, it seems there is a problem with this motherboard, it doesn't really like 4 gb dual channel that well.
Freezes during loading bar where a lot more often before I've updated the bios to latest version.

Also I tried with a new module of 2 gb ram from a friend, I believe they are called sycron, again no problem with one module, if I put 2 or 3 modules of ram, doesn't matter what combination, problems start happening.

I can't see the point of driver verifier, I already know the best way to get a BSOD, downloading large data + running a HD movie simultaneously in splash pro/bsplayer=> BSOD

BTW: I ran hd tune pro so I can check the hard drive for bads, no errors.

Have you used a known good pair to test the mobo slots?

I've tested it with a brand new 2gb ram module, only 1 dimm out of four, and it still gave me BSOD, also the pc froze after the second restart(no bsod, only freeze).

Could the psu be the problem? It's a sirtec 500w, I mean it has to be, cause I've tried a new ram, new hard-drive and still the same problem, I initially thought it's the motherboard, but since it has the same symptom with only one module of ram (brand new one that is) it has to be the power supply, right?

LLE: It's not the psu, just had it tested, took it to a service, they put a device to it and said the voltages are good.
Unfortunately the motherboard has to be at fault, piece of shit msi.
