Hi, I have Windows 7 home premium 64-bit installed in my HP laptop. For the past 4 months, i experienced a display driver problem whenever i'm playing games installed in my laptop. I just ignored it, since after a few seconds, it will show a message that "the display something has successfully recovered."

Then, there's an unexpected shutdown. The windows just shutdown by itself without any reason/error messages to explain why it did so. Again, i ignored it because when i open the laptop, no problem was encountered.

The most recent is the BSOD. I have HPMedia Smart DVD on, then i tried to open Window Media Player, when BSOD occur. It totally confused me, what i did wrong. I experienced HPMedia Smart Music/Window Media Player not responding/hangs, that resulted to the explorer.exe not responding/hang.

It's the first time i opened Window Media Player, that sent my OS crashing down.
Though this the 2nd BSOD. I cannot remember the 1st instance.

I tried system restore, but it failed with an error 0x80070005. So, i turned off Avira guard. 2nd system restore, different error 0x8000ffff.

Please, can anyone help me with my problem? Thank you, in advance.

attached are the dump files.

Hi nat and welcome to SF
The bugcheck pointed to 2 stop error code, 1E and 116. For the stop 116, probably you are having issue with video card, please follow the instruction in the article below, and please download and install fresh copy of your intel graphic card driver:
http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...op-0x116-video_tdr_error-troubleshooting.html
Here is the bugcheck:
Code:

You have some drivers that need to be update
jmcr.sys , which is JMicron JMB38X Memory Card Reader Driver
Code:
jmcr jmcr.sys Thu Jul 17 19:23:53 2008 (487F39D9)
Also, IntcHdmi.sys, which is Intel High Definition Audio HDMI Driver
Code:
IntcHdmi IntcHdmi.sys Tue Jul 15 22:20:41 2008 (487CC049)
enecir.sys , which is ENE Consumer IR Driver for eHome
Code:
enecir enecir.sys Thu Sep 04 16:47:58 2008 (48BFAECE)
Apfiltr.sys , which is Alps pointing device , please update it at www.alps.com
Code:
Apfiltr Apfiltr.sys Thu Jan 31 21:23:09 2008 (47A1D9CD)
Finally are Agere Systems Soft Modem and CyberLink FCL Driver
Code:
000 000.fcl Fri Sep 26 20:11:22 2008 (48DCDF7A)
agrsm64 agrsm64.sys Sat Nov 22 05:05:20 2008 (492730A0)
The stop code 1E with exception code ffffffffffc0000005 made me think about it might be memorry corruption. You might want to download third party called memtest86, burn it to cd and let it run for at least 7 passess
The instruction for doing it is here:
Memory Diagnostics

let us know how things turn out

Tuan

Hi tuan, thanks for helping me out. I'm not quite done. I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do with the Cyberlink FCL driver. How do i know that the 000.fcl i'm going to download is a valid application and not a virus, trojan, spyware or adware?

000.fcl - Can you trust this file? OASIS

can anyone advise me, if it is safe or not?

I guess you can download the driver that use it (000.fcl ) via this website. Don't update the file itself, update the driver that use it

Hi tuan, no BSOD. I'm near finishing the drivers update, except for the 000.fcl (i have no idea what program is using the said appln - meaning ??? ) I already updated the JMB38X last night. All updates were ok. Just for my OCness (obsessive compulsive), open the device manager just to double-check that i didn't miss out. JMB38x (4 entries) are missing.

I trried re-installing earlier, hoping it will somewhat find the device. It didn't return any error message, no device. Did i messed up big time?

do i need to uninstall the said driver? details pls.

No need to worry about 000.fcl nat, I never seen it cause BSODs, therefore you can forget about it, don't try to mess it up. It's ok if you leave it there.
I'm not used to farmiliar with card reader stuff, therefore It's hard for me to imagine how they are, hopefully someone will help you out with that (truly appologize)
I think you are fine, no worry

actually, i cannot find 000.fcl in my hard disk.
thank you so much!! i owe you big time. :D

follow up question, can a JMB38x driver(win7) work on a JMB38x host controller(vista)? The orig OS is Vista. So, i'm guessing the installed controller is vista. When the OS is changed to win7, does it follow that the driver should also be win7?

Yes, you can run using compatibility mode for vista (right click-->property-->choose compatibility mode)
I think it would work fine for window 7 if it work for vista, but remember to choose the newest version one ok?
The most important thing is that you have not experienced any more BSODs

Best,
Tuan

Hi tuan, finished all drivers update & memory test. It's a huge relief that the memory test didn't spit out any errors. I just hope i won't be seeing blue screen ever.

In my online search for the problems i'd encountered, it's always been suggested to have a clean registry to keep the pc in tip-top shape. Does it lessen, if not eliminate, the probability of future pc problem?

I tried running some of those appln. All detected problems, though the number varies. It's a pro-active solution to prevent future headache(s). I only tried the scanning portion since don't wanna mess up the registry. What's your take on this? (Wise Registry Cleaner/Advanced System Care/Registry Booster?)
btw, thanks a lot !!!

You are very welcome
Hum..I'm not sure about what to suggest you at this point..However I have seen some PC doctor tool mess up users' computer (me:)).
In my opinion, you are good doctor for your own machine, don't mess it up, then it's gonna be fine.
Wish you no longer see BSODs again eventhough me as well as other members in BSODs team really like to help

BSOD again!! (after a week)

Prior to BSOD, my laptop had been experiencing a display problem. When it is opened, the display had some sort of minor signal disruption, only for a few seconds.

Yesterday, it's a totally different scenario. The display screen was unstable (it's like an eye that keeps on winking/blinking every 3 seconds). It lasted for about 1-1/2 hr. I sought out the help of HP support. I was instructed to 1) un-install my display driver(win7), 2) update the BIOS & 3) install a new display driver(win vista). After carrying out the updates, the screen is back to normal.

While Avira anti-vir system scan is running, I watched some video(jwplayer) online when the screen blank out (goes black). The system is not responding/sort of hangs. After a minute or two, it just restarted. Then, it displays that a dump file was created(i realized it's another form of BSOD).

Question: When orig OS is win vista, (my guess) HW installed is primarily for vista. If OS is changed to Win 7, drivers for the different devices installed should still be Win Vista? or Win 7?

attached is the dump file.

thanks for any assistance and help you can extend.

Yep, 116 stop error code again, problem related to graphic card.
Please read again carefull this article my friend
[2-Int] STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting
Make sure to follow the advise fully (Furmak video stress test etc...),

For your question, some devices, Vista drivers are only option and you have to run as compatibility mode

Regard,

Tuan
