BSODs a few minutes into Archeage

I should start by saying this is a brand new machine. The specs for the machine should be on my profile. When launching Archeage, after getting into the game, I can usually play anywhere from 2-4 minutes before the screen blacks out. The audio usually still in tact, but no mouse pointer. No matter where I blindly click, there seems to be no response. I cannot ESC, even if I play in windowed mode, the entire screen blacks out. I've also noticed that I can play in the same area for a longer time than I do if I we're to move about. So rendering the atmosphere sooner than later. Settings wise, I've made it the lowest possible in all areas.

Core Temp is the Temperature Monitor I use for the CPU. Its Low-High is 6c and 24c, usually holding steady around 8c-11c. I do have a house fan on the machine for good measure. Inside the machine, It has 2 120mm fans front, 1 140mm fan in rear. another 3 120mm fans adorn the top and it has a 360mm liquid cooling system.

More recently I've used the computer just for netflix. But there has been a couple times where it has blacked out when watching it too. When trying to play Archeage, it will black out with a tan background and yellow vertical stripes, but otherwise performs the same as a regular screen black out. Whenever I restart the machine, I now usually have to restart it twice every time because the first time blacks out after it boots up windows and right before the login interface.

I'm not sure if I'm doing the BSOD instructions correcty, but I have attached the .zip file that was created on my desktop. Other than that, I'm not sure if there is anything I'm missing.

What do you guys make of it?

Thx ahead of time. :)

Hello, krilon and welcome to the Forums. I will see if I can help you with this. Currently you have 2 dump files. Both are very similar.

Code:
BugCheck 116, {fffffa8009697010, fffff880040f5038, 0, d}
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\atikmpag.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for atikmpag.sys
[COLOR=red]*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for atikmpag.sys[/COLOR]
Probably caused by : atikmpag.sys ( atikmpag+b038 )
Followup: MachineOwner

Specifically it is a VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE which means your driver crashed and failed to recover within the allotted time.

Your current Driver is

Code:
atikmpag
start end module name

I am going to get you to do a couple of things for me. First I would like you to get a Utility which will enable you to monitor your GPU Temps at all times. Most Manufacturers have their own. If you do not have one, MSI Afterburner will work on most cards (Afterburner | MSI Gaming Series) you can set the monitoring to show the temps and many other features on screen while you are gaming. Please keep a close watch on temps.

If you have any of the Gigabyte Utilities or programs installed, please uninstall them. They are known causes of BSODs.

Please update your driver. I am going to give you some steps that will help you get a clean install and not install anything you do not use/need which could conflict with other drivers.

I am going to give you some links that will help you get a good clean install and not have any drivers you don't need that will conflict with other drivers. Download a WHQL driver from http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/329659-latest-amd-catalyst-video-driver-windows-7-a.html . Once you have them downloaded, uninstall you current driver from control panel. next clean up any left over drivers from following this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/83814-drivers-clean-left-over-files-after-uninstalling.html and select only ATI Display Drivers. After you have done that and rebooted, install the new driver, only select custom install and install only what you have to. Very few people need most of what they include. You do not need the audio/HDMI drivers as you already have that in your Motherboard drivers. Unless there is some reason you need them, the only thing you really need is the Display Driver.

Please see if these steps make it any better and let us know the outcome. If you have more BSODs please upload the http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html again.

Problem Persists

I've followed the instructions about 5-6 times, each time looking closer at the instructions to be sure I was following them to the letter, however, the problem remains. I have included the most recent logs below.

As far as MSI Afterburner, I have downloaded it. The GPU temps are steady at 35c, occassionally 36c, when running only the Afterburner program. Even now with the single web browser it stands at 35c. I don't even have Avast Antivirus running background. When playing Archeage, the temps rise and fluctuates between 45c-53c, mostly at 50c.

I assume 50c (122f) is too extreme for the graphics card.

I have also downloaded League of Legends. This game runs perfectly fine without any problems whatsoever, though I'm sure League has less a strain than other MMOs and MOBAs.

If 50°C is too hot for the graphics card, the card is defective. 50°C is rather average for gaming and pretty cool for many cards. There are no new dump files in your latest upload. They are the same as previously.

Have you uninstalled all Gigabyte Utilities? And are you sure it is not the Game crashing instead of the card? There are many reports of the same thing with this game archeage crashing - Bing . There are just about as many for League of Legends though. Which one is more graphically stressful, I don't know. Are you having this problem with other games?

The description you give for the colored lines, sounds more like a card going out. The black screen sounds like drives or the card.

Watch your temps closely and run Furmark (http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html) which is a video card stress test. The temps will go very high very fast. Watch them and if they get too high, stop the test. I would like you to run the test until the temps level out and are stable. Watch for Artifacts while running the test too. Toward the end of the test, please upload a screenshot of the test. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html
