Hello all,

I'm having problems with my computer. I'm getting random freezes and BSOD's. I tried to use windbg and downloaded the symbols to determine the cause, but the program will NOT accept my symbols. I tried all packages of symbols from the microsoft website, but none work. The program keeps whining about ntoskrnl.exe.

So my question is, can anybody here help me on the route to the culprit? Thanks!
I've added the minidumps as u can see.

Several problems

1-sptd.sys used in daemon tools and alcohol. A huge cause of BSOD's
Please remove any CD virtualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%. They use a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

You can use MagicDisc as an alternative.

Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

2-Symantec/Norton Ghost needs to be removed
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

3-Testdriveunlimited caused a memory exception test your memory

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Hello ride277 and welcome to Seven Forums,

I would first remove Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120%. They use a file sptd.sys, which is notorious for causing BSOD. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you are done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

Next, update those drivers...

Uninstall this (if you really need it, what do you need to use it for?)

Remove ALL Tages Software. Tages is a known cause of BSOD.

Do you use Speedfan Software? If not, remove it.

Thanks for the replies! :)

To answer your question, I use that (Norton Ghost) to make backups of my whole C:\ partition so I don't forget to make backups of certain folders. I mostly do this when I reinstall windows. I make a full backup of everything to avoid forgetting certain maps.

Time for a new piece of software that does the same, but works with win 7.

I'll do all you suggested right now.

THANX AGAIN!:D:cool:

I use Acronis to back up my files - maybe you want to give it a try?
