BSODs from several sources + glitchy screens/sound

Hi,

This laptop is old. It's an HP G56-122US. I don't know the exact date of manufacture; I inherited it from my grandmother, who no longer used it. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit (which was the original OEM OS). I have not reinstalled it, I did a factory restore when I got it in order to wipe out any malware and unwanted programs, and it's been running great for about a year now.

CPU is an AMD Athlon II P340 Dual-core 2.20 GHz processor. Graphics card is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 (yeah, I know, this is a very basic budget laptop, but I'm in grad school and I'll take what I can get ;) )

On Monday, without warning, I began getting repeated blue screens with various errors: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, dxgmms1.sys, bcmwl664.sys, PAGED_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, and most often, BAD_POOL_HEADER. Initially, it was just blue screens, but now sometimes it doesn't even do that-- the whole screen just goes red and blue and glitchy with horrible static coming from the speakers.

Based on those messages I thought it was either a memory error or something wrong with my graphics card. I ran memtest and it came back clean. I updated all my drivers with DriverBoost. I tried booting into safe mode, but now it won't even do that-- it gets to the black screen where it begins loading all the files and drivers, and freezes on atipcie.sys. I followed all the steps from this malware removal guide (Simple and free guide to removing malware - Malware - Windows 7), with no luck. I also ran chkdsk and found nothing there either!

I also followed all the steps from this malware removal guide, but I found nothing.

I have no idea what to do other than a full restore, but I really don't want to deal with that since it's been a while since I backed up my stuff, and it's such a time consuming process...

I've attached the dump files from the DM Log program, along with output from BlueScreenView, which should hopefully help.

Thanks in advance!

After some more tests, I've concluded that I am facing 2 kinds of crashes. The first crash is the regular BSOD where I get an actual error message. The BSODs have no consistency and are usually related to a driver like my network card or USB port. The second crash is a graphics-related crash, where the entire computer freezes and does the weird glitchy graphics thing. The problem with that is that it doesn't provide any error message or dump file, so I can't determine what's causing it.

I ran Driver Verifier this morning but it kept causing BSODs with my usb port and preventing me from starting windows normally. So I tried disabling the USB ports in safe mode, but then it kept causing the aforementioned graphics crashes. So I don't actually know how helpful these dump files will be, since they don't show anything about the graphics crashes...

Yes please!

I ended up disabling all my USB drivers based on how Driver Verifier gave bluescreens for usbfilter.sys. Since then I have had fewer bluescreens, but the graphics crash still happens on occasion.

I've attached the dump for what I think(?) are the most recent bluescreens. One of them was the Driver Verifier usbfilter.sys bluescreen, but the others were just random. I think there was one later than this but I can't find the dump file for it. I have no logs for the graphics glitches, but I know I had one at least two days ago.

Apologies, I thought I had done that already. Here's the zipped file from the DM Log program.

Please run the DM Log Collector again and upload a new zip, the current uploaded one misses several logs.
You could check if there are
  1. 18 .txt,
  2. 1 .nfo,
  3. 1 or more .dmp,
files present, if this is the case then all logs are present :)
If there are a few missing, no problem as we can get them manually if required :)

Huh, that's odd. Not sure how that happened.

Unfortunately the laptop is now a brick. When I turned it on today, it began updating the BIOS, saying that it had become corrupted.

And, you guessed it, it crashed while updating the BIOS.

There's no coming back from that, so should I just mark this thread as "solved" and then start saving up for a new laptop?

It can only be recovered by the manufacturer so far I know.
