Hi posted about issues with STOP:0x00000124 BSOD. I could not fix the error so had to bite the bullit and reinstall Windows 7 Ultimate X64........ Only to suffer the same 124 BSOD!!

However it is happening far less now (maybe every few days). Also in event viewer there was something about Volmger error 46 (pointing to hard drive volume 1 which i think is my Seagate Barracuda 1TB).

Now i've updated windows and i'm running the latest drivers for EVERYTHING that i could find. But i remember a while ago there were issues with some of Seagates 1TB HD's (i made sure mine wasn't one of the affected revisions mine has newer CC38 firmware).

BUT when i installed the 1TB i also installed the seagate tools and this told me that there was a firmware update available for this drive however i could never download or update the firmware from seagates site!! so do you think this could be the problem? also my power plan was set to powerdown the HD's i have now set this to "Never".

Also sometimes after a few of the BSOD's during POST it would stop for a few seconds on finding the 1TB HD. However it would spin up and all would be fine (only ever halted looking for the 1TB).

I have included the latest dumps thank you for any help.

The results of this one dump indicate hardware. I would suggest you check your HD carefully. It of course could be any thing that is part of your computer.
I suggest that you test your hard drive and back everything up.

If the problem does not occur in safe mode, it would be a driver issue. It appears to be hardware related, however. The meaning of the actual error code 124 is less clear.
In addition these drivers must be replaced, they have outlived their usefulness.

Thanks for the replies:

richc46 do you have any idea how to update those files the only one i recognize is the pcoufin (part of convertxtodvd i think?) but i have no idea what the other ones are (well the AMD ONE is cpu or chipset based i think?).

I have just updated the 1TB HD's firmware to CC3E from CC38. See the thing is this is my first AMD chipset MoBo so to be honest im not even sure if the chipset drivers are all installed properly!! you see my other MoBo's have been nForce chipsets and i could just update the drivers.

However when i look for AMD chipset drivers i can never find "the whole set" and don't really know what i'm looking for on AMD's site. Infact there is NO mention about drivers for my 890GX anywhere i could find!!.

According to the Catalyst control center icon in programs and features when looking to uninstall it only shows the AMD USD Filter Driver 1.0.15.99 no other drivers are mentioned!! in programs AT ALL!!!

Thanx.

This is how you get info on the drivers.

I put the name of the second one in google. Came up with this

http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/process.pl?p=mcdbus.sys

Then reading the article, I came up with this. Bottom line resarch to find the drivers. The info is there.

http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/MagicISO_SCSI_Host_Controller/4-176584-1.html

So in the case of this driver, if you want the program, uninstall the old and put the new. If you do not want it just uninstall. New most current version has the most up to date drivers.

The best way uninstall is with this tool

You are very welcome. Before each install or uninstall make sure you make a system restore point. If you make a mistake you can go back and fix it.

Found out a bit more about the files in question however im not sure some of them are user upgradeable (some are Windows system files).

spldr.sys and spsys.sys are the Windows system files
amdxata is a storage filter driver (AMD's "game.com" site is down at the moment so can't check for updates:mad:).

nuidfltr.sys is a Intelipoint filter driver (mouse i presume)

Patin Couffin was installed with ConvertX2DVD my installed version is only a few revisions behind the current one not sure why it's so old (2006!) don't think you can just upgrade the Patin Couffin engine (couldn't find it with google).

Thanx.

Leave these two alone
spldr.sys and spsys.sys are the Windows system files.
Do what you can then, use the computer and see if the BSOD return. If they do and you get another dump report, if there are are any similarities between reports and we will have to give them priority. One dump report is usually not conclusive.

Your dump report did not really give any information that points to a particular cause, but rather many.

Thanks no problems so far and once again thank you for the help as i said in my other thread i'm more of a "hardware" guy (my bro knows more about Windows & software issues) however even he is stumped!

On this install of Windows i have had FAR less BSOD issues so maybe software not hardware related?? things that i have tried that MAY HAVE helped:

Switching power plan to High Performance.
Switching of hard disk "sleep"
Switching OFF CnQ and running all fans (in BIOS) at full (def NOT heat related though 5 pass Intel Burntest = 47c:D).
Flashed BIOS to latest 14xx something from ASUS site.
And finally full format/install + Windows update directx update to latest. latest GPU drivers (257.29).
Latest audio/nic/"i think" chipset drivers.

Now at the moment the BSOD's are a minor "pest" however i don't really like my rig crashing even "once in a while" to me (a hardware guy at heart) is to many:D:D. Plus can't be good for the hard disk/Windows system files. So would love to sort this out once and for all. Will post any .dmps if it BSOD's.

Thanx.

Hi just did it again:mad: just as my girlfriend went to collect a Zynga Poker "gift" (Facebook) i have included the .dmp file below.

Infact i would now say that the majority of the BSOD's happen whilst on the Internet and MORE often than not on Facebook/Zynga Poker (....the mrs lol).

Thanx.

Your .dmp file shows a 0x124 hardware error ..

STOP 0x124 errors
This is an error that your CPU reports to Windows. They're difficult to interpret, and the results of the interpretation aren't very helpful.

Most often caused by hardware problems (bad drivers, incompatible drivers/hardware, broken hardware)

Hi Tews read through the link last time (previous Windows install) i tried most if not all the things listed and only a total format "cured" (i thought) the problem.

It only BSOD's once in a few days now but still the same STOP:124 error as before. As i mentioned above most of the time now when the mrs is playing Zynga Poker/playing games/browsing Facebook.

When i play more "demanding":D games (Need For Speed Shift, F.E.A.R 2 etc) i have no such issues?!

I have ran most "stress" tests for CPU RAM and all have passed NOT ONE has ever reported a SINGLE! error. GPU has been tested with Furmark, same no issues. Never overclocked a single part of this rig since building it (i even prior to the last Windows install totally stripped the PC and rebuilt it).

It may just be because most of the parts are quite "new to market" and need a few more BIOS updates/new drivers/firmware however i can never be sure??

Thanx.

What did you use to test?

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Try this free stress test: Free Software - GIMPS
Prime95 Setup:
- extract the contents of the zip file to a location of your choice
- double click on the executable file
- select "Just stress testing"
- select the "Blend" test. If you've already run MemTest overnight you may want to run the "Small FFTs" test instead.
- "Number of torture test threads to run" should equal the number of CPU's times 2 (if you're using hyperthreading).
The easiest way to figure this out is to go to Task Manager...Performance tab - and see the number of boxes under CPU Usage History
Then run the test for 6 to 24 hours - or until you get errors (whichever comes first).
The Test selection box and the stress.txt file describes what components that the program stresses.

What are your temps like? Download Speedfan and post the results.

Hi Jonathan_King i used the following:

Memtest (Bootable ISO on CD) RAM@ 1600mhz 24,8,8,8 1.65v (default for my DDR3 sticks) let Memtest run for over (i think 8 passes did this on LAST Windows install did post other thread with more detail) without ONE single error! CPU when running Intel Burn Test (LinPack) never got higher than 47c (Corsairs H50 Water cooler:D).

I will dowload Prime and let it run for a few hours (going out in a bit so will do then) and report back later. Thanks for your help.

Thanx.

Ran Prime it was still chugging away when we returned didn't look like anything was amiss when i closed the program. I'm now almost sure the problem is somehow connected to the Internet/Facebook it now never suffers from these BSOD's when the computer is doing any other task since the format/install????

It BSOD'd again whilst the mrs was playing Bejeweled Blitz (FaceBook browser game) i have included the .dmp (along with all the others). Not really sure what to try now??? Just installed Minefield 3.7 Alpha 5 and it still BSOD'd (last dump).

Thanx.

Perhaps the issue is with ASACPI.sys (a motherboard driver). Please download and install this: http://www.sevenforums.com/attachme...6128501-help-bsod-win7-64-bit-mb_win7_atk.zip

Hi thank you Jonathan_King i installed the MoBo driver will report back any changes and once again thank you all for your continued help. The BSOD's are now at "minor pest" level as they just affect the mrs on FaceBook however i would like to get to the bottom of it (just for peace of mind really:D).

Thanx.

First BSOD for me in Need For Speed the first one of this install the sound was looping this time (doesn't often do this). Will install the original ATK driver from the ASUS site and try shift again .dmp file below.

Thanx.

*Just tried Need For Speed Shift with the SAME car/track/opponent and no crash?! i was able to complete the race with no issues. I located the ATK Driver in Device Manager and rolled back to previous driver (from 2004!!!).
