Thanks for the information.

The QPI/VTT bump should help, if not then it just means the old RAM is not compatible with your system.

You'll like a non-stock CPU cooler. Mine idles between 24 - 30c.

Can't blame you, it's generally accepted that you shouldn't update BIOS unless you need to.
Here's some reading material, just for info:

How Do I Update My BIOS? - Gigabyte motherboard site. I recommend the first method on this site, using a USB memory stick.

BIOS Flashing - A "How To ~ Qflash Guide" - this has some good information.

Lets rule out everything else first.

Hi Dave,

I thought I would update with what has happened since last post.

As suggested I increased QPI/VTT to 1.150 and then shut down system for 2 days. I then 'fired up' using the 2 old ram sticks. It BSODed with a 0a "IRQL not less or equal". Increased QPI/VTT to 1.19 and ran again, this time BSOD with 1a, Memory Management.

Then decided to have a go at updating BIOS and, thankfully,after following your links, successfully updated to version F13. Have increased QPI/VTT back to 1.150 and will now wait for another 48 hours and boot up with the old ram again.

This should answer whether the ram is "cactus" or not.

Have checked on prices on CPU cooler and will probably get same as you, they cost around AU$38, so not too bad.


Will advise on outcome.

Sorry to hear the QPI/VTT didn't help.
The different BSoD might indicate some improvement.

Good news about the BIOS update, this should help.

Let us know the results.

Good price on the CPU cooler, it isn't the best available but, it's a good one.

You'll see an improvement in CPU temps.

Hi Dave,

Further to my last post, waited 48 hours before starting system with suspected bad memory sticks and once again the system BSODed with 1a fault error. Replaced the memory with the newer 2 sticks and the system operated without problem. Then left it a further 72 hours and it again operated as it should.

I have now returned original for, hopefully, replacement.

A happy ending, at last.

Glad to hear that you got your system stable, good call on getting the 2 new RAM sticks earlier, hope you get the old RAM replaced.
