Bugcheck code 0x00000109 after chitka/Adobe Flash HD virus removal

Hi Jeff,

lol, I know what you mean. When things go wrong with something of mine I don't stop until they're fixed. A few months ago my phone started playing up and I eventually fixed it and got to sleep at 6.30am - still managed to make it to my 9am lecture!

This should sort out the remaining SFC issues:

SFCFix Script

The chkdsk problem is an interesting one. On an NTFS system, the max number of hardlinks that you can have per file is 1023 but I can't believe you have this many hardlinks of aepic.dll on your computer! Your plan sounds great, it will break the hardlink and put the file back in place :) Give it a go, reboot and run a chkdsk.

So I tried copying the file, deleting the old file, renaming the file copy, and rerunning chkdsk, but I still get the errors below. That is despite the fact that the disk edit program (see attached jpg) shows that the file is now empty. :(

CHKDSK issue submitted to Hardware Forum

I've submitted the CHKDSK issue to the Hardware forum as I'm not sure what else to do with it. Do you think the CHKDSK errors are realted to the SFC /scannow failure?

Sorry for the delay, I've got so much going on at the moment and an ever growing list of threads to reply to. This morning I had 34 tabs open, all with things I need to reply to, but I've managed to work that down to 10 now.

Hey, sorry I didn't mean to drop this. The guy I'm doing this for has become very frustrated and needs an immediate solution, so I'm rebuilding an old XP box to run his custom software and then I'm going to recommend that I take the other system home for an attempt at a quicker diagnostics and repair and/or rebuild. I'm hoping to put the other system in place on Tuesday afternoon. If he is okay with me taking it, I will do some more troubleshooting with you. Otherwise, I'm just going to back it up and rebuild it. Thanks for all the help.

Hi Jeff,

No worries about the delay, I've been quite busy myself actually. Let's try another SFC:

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

I'm going to cry if that file is corrupt again :p

Couldn't run through readiness checker

I tried several times to run the readiness checker. Every time I looked over, it was either still running or the system was rebooting. I'm including the log anyway in case it finished.

BTW, it failed with the same type of message when running SFC /scannow as before.

Hi Jeff,

Your CBS log has quite a few manifest errors but doesn't mention which manifest is at fault, nor does the CheckSUR log, so I think the only way forward from here is to do a repair install:

I was thinking around the same lines. Whatever happened here, it toasted the system. You made a heroic effort. I will attempt a repair install, but in the OEM's infinite wisdom, an operating system was not included, just a restore partition and restore disks. In my experience, the repair install works less than half the time, so I don't normally even try it anymore. I'm going to try the digital river link provided to get a Win 7 Pro 64-bit ISO for the repair. My main concern is to save the XP Mode and all of the customization I did to get some legacy software to work. I like the export function of Windows 8 VM, but it looks like you have to manually do this for windows 7. :( I'm going to attempt a backup of the XP Mode before I do anything else. I'll update you when it's done. Wish me luck.

J

P.S. Enjoy your holiday, you deserve it. :D

Hi Jeff,

That sounds like a job and a half! Windows is a pain to reinstall on its own, let alone having to fiddle with getting your XP mode set up again, but at least you'll be error free at the end of it! Good luck with the reinstall! Hopefully you won't need it though :)

Thanks! I can't wait :D Finally managed to get through all of my threads before I leave!
