Solved bugcode_usb_driver bsod only on shutdown (0xfe)

New member
I have recently been getting the bugcode_usb_driver bsod, but only on shutdown or sleeping. The computer then reboots, so i can only turn off by doing so during blue screen or hard shutdown. This has followed sound playback problems, specifically crackling through the speakers and trouble with youtube audio. They both started after returning to my pc after a few days away. I now have fully functioning audio but am still getting the blue screens.

I have updated all dell and amd recommended firmware/drivers etc, and unisintalled my realtek audio driver and reinstalled microsoft hd audio drivers. I have also carried out all windows updates.

Some info that may help:

I have recently tried uninstalling all usb devices in device manager. My pc bsod when trying to uninstall one of the usb root hubs but i can now boot to safe mode without bsod for some reason.

Probably not related but still a problem.

Please remove any CD visualization programs such as Daemon Tools and Alcohol 120%.

They use a driver, found in your dmp, called sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs.

Use this SPTD uninstaller DuplexSecure - Downloads DuplexSecure - FAQ

when you're done you can use this Freeware:

MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM (MagicDisc) in its place

Using MagicISO to create ISO image files

Please upload the DMP's for analysis this way....

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.

* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I have tried doing this and it hasn't helped. Most items will uninstall but a couple of the host controller and root hub items will cause a crash and bsod when trying to uninstall.
Thanks.

More minidumps attached. Any more help greatly appreciated, is it worth doing anything to do with checking the hardware?
Thanks.

Still USB. See snip. Have you followed the generic USB help?

Good news, the problem appears to be fixed. I am unsure of what exactly fixed it but i took the following steps:

Tried again to reinstall several drivers (including realtek audio) from dell site
Updated BIOS from dell site
Powered down and checked internal connections including removing and replacing RAM

Will mark the thread as solved.
Thank you for your help.
