Build 7048 confirmed, Windows 7 RC1 on February 27?

Rumor smash: Windows 7 build 7048 does not yet exist

I have confirmed with a Microsoft employee that build 7048 does not yet exist, and that development on the RC branch has not yet started. Speculation on a new build keeps mounting as testers still have not received anything beyond build 7000. The original story is below.

I'm excited to try out the polished builds myself

If they really want to make a killing in market sales for this years Christmas, moving this forward as quickly as they can is really a bold (or foolish) move for M$ to reassure partners that M$ will be able to deliver RTM just in-time for the OEMs to start churning out holiday supplies to the market.

As they've gone to the RC build tag it should be that all the known Beta issues have been addressed so looks like the public RC shouldn't be too long

The way I see things

All official testers will get a copy of RC1 - by official I mean those those who are Technet or MSDN members or on the customer feedback panel / program. some time later there will be a public download made available as with the first beta, this may or may not be a limited offer (2.5 d/l's million as last time - until they changed it), it will , iI think be time limited

I am not sure if those who registered for the public beta keys with MS will be notified of the availablility of RC1 - I am getting regular update from MS through that channel so it is possible

well i'm sure i'll get a copy one way or another. i was getting emails from MS for a while, but the last one was several weeks ago...

i think i'll stick to 'official' releases though. i am using Windows 7 as my primary OS at the moment, so i don't want to be reinstalling it too often!

Thanks for that,I'm sure there would be a lot of people very "miffed" who have SEVEN installed on there machines already,if MS didn't notify them first before they announced it to the world.

And I was really looking forward to it. Well, I'm still looking for a higher x64 build than 7000. No luck yet

To All - For Giggles & Grins I just found Build 7022 and installed it. Ofcourse it was only 32-bit (and I was running Build 7000 64-bit) but it appears that Microsoft really does listen to the Feedback. The things I enjoyed about this build (1) The WEI has been upgraded and now even if there are changes in the evaluation done in 7 the WEI score is closer to what Vista 64 Ultimate said it was. (2) I had problems loading the ATI drivers in Build 7000 & now that is gone. I think this indicates communcation between ATI & Microsoft - I wondered about that.
(3) I was able to leave the UAC at a midrange setting and it performed to let me know I was effecting something in the software I might want to know about - not just creating a nussance. (4) I personally like to re-arrange the Startup Menu and the 'mess' that results after installing stuff... - there was enough security there but it was intuitive to use it or circumvent it - It seemed logical and gives the user the choice to use or not use. (5) I liked the "Libraries" interface and the ability to set it up so a single users Documents etc. can come up without an act of congress. (6) There is a single "Here are the devices place...?" I liked the layout and the way they did it. (7) Even though the 32-bit version only used ~ 3Gigs of the (value written on System page 2750 Meg) of the 4Gigs of Ram I have available, Build 7022 seemed snapier and "brighter" in responses of the software. I think we might get a real good product. Personally I don't like some of the things with Vista 32/64 but I can't sign-up that it 'sucks' or is bad. That's my opinion. God's Speed to all - Patrick C
