I'm an old man who retired from the computer field 7 years ago as a MIS manager so I've built over a thousand computer. Now 7 years later I became stupid. So I figure I need a 2nd Desktop because I blew away two of them in the last month. I have everything except the CPU, motherboard, & RAM. So I figure one or two hundred extra dollar is ok but I don't want to build a dragster to pick up my groceries. I think a AMD 1090T or an i5 with DDR3 -1333 because why over clock. I need a motherboard with USB3 because that is why I'm building this thing. I went out and bought a 2T HD USB3 like I really need it but I want it so I got it just like this computer I'm going to build. Also supports the SATA3 (The 6 Gig thingy) See what I mean. WD got a 1T for a hundred and a 64 meg buffer. Anyway any advice or tutorials for building this computer would be appreciated. The computer will be uses for a couple of medium games, tens of thousands of pictures and I love Google earth.

IMO: ddr2 is better cost than ddr3, however most mobos now adays use ddr3. sata 6 is a waste of money, most hard drives dont use it (but if you got money, go ahead!), and if you want to game and watch videos, i would go with ati since they have very good price per performance cards, and better with videos than nvidia.

and also, what are you going to be using the usb3.0 for? if you are using it for external hdds i would recommend using esata instead....

read this pdf: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/pc-hardware-guide-download/
and this one too: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/download-pc-hardware-guide-part-2/
the above arent exactly guides but provide useful information on todays stuff.
just google in "build your own pc" and you should get a plethora of articles.

if i were you i wouldnt skimp out on the good companies for extra value, always choose the better companies even if you are tight on money, because the headaches that it will save you is probably worth more than money. ( like: extra valu ram vs crucial or corsair, crucial/corsair wins)

and always read reviews.

this is what im going to build in the next months:

the hard drive isnt there because ima transfer this one to the other (untill i can get a better hdd).

I am going to try this board Asus P8P67 with the Sandy bridge Core i5-2400 with Cooler Master CPU cooler and Samsung DVD burner with 4 gig of ram possible a SSD or 2 500 gig Black Editions WD with an Radeon HD 6850 using an Antec Model #:DF-85 and Antec PS Model #:TP-650 Windows 7 Pro 64 bit about $1300 for a customer of mine if he goes for SSD then going to take one of the 500 gig WD out of system and put in a 750gig in place of the other 500 should be plenty of storage.

I hope you are not going to be disappointed by USB3 like I was. My "Christmas system" came with USB3 - and it is about 30% faster than USB2 (same disk in different enclosures), but that is all. I had expected more. But thinking about it, after all it is the speed of the HD that rules. With a SSD it should be different - if you can afford it for data storage.
