Burn DVD folders to play in DVD player

I'm unable to check this out at the moment and wondered if anyone on the forum has experienced problems.

A friend has used Windows 7 to burn a DVD that is currently on a hard drive. He has highlighted the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders then clicked 'Burn'. When prompted, he selected the play ‘With a CD/DVD player’ option.

The DVD is burnt OK but can only be played on the PC, it doesn't play in his DVD player.

Question... does Windows 7 burn these two folders so that they will work on a DVD player or does he need a third party DVD burner?

As far as I know, dvd players need more than just dragging video ts and audio ts folders into the disk. Dvds player compatible disks need to be encoded onto the disk itself. Use windows dvd maker. Hope this helps!

Why not just use nero to burn DVD movies?

Did you read what I sead before nero 9 is free.....

I tried neros lite before and it is simply one huge advertisement program >.< sowie crispy
All it does is burn things to dvd, it does NOTHING else that you cannot do already in windows 7
and Windows dvd maker is better, more featured, not bloatware, not for advertisement, and integrated, and best of all FREE.

I had a quick look at Windows DVD Maker but, bizarrely, this suggests it doesn't support .vob files

I went for a simple solution and recommended ImgBurn.

I like the post about suggesting windows DVD maker over nero becasue it's free.....WEll, i got news for you..
IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!
I guess you get what you pay for...I have tried the DVD maker on 3 different computers all with windows 7 ...I have tried the suggestions of turning off the suggested filters...and I have gone through an entire package of DVDs (after an attempt, the DVD is no longer good to use unless you're using it for files).
It doesn't work.
