I think it must be the end of the world. I never thought i'd see this.

Zorin PC is hardware, ( like Apple) that has Windows 7 and the Zorin OS built in and set up for dual boot.

Wow.. I didn't know you could sell a PC with Windows and another OS installed on it and be clear of the Microsoft EULA.

Zorin PC - Product Product with hardware

http://www.zorin-os.com/free.html Just the free OS for download

Yeah, it's based on the latest Ubuntu without the Unity type desktop that lots of Linux users hate.. actually they use a stripped down version of Gnome instead of KDE.

I tried the free version of the OS called Zorin 5 Core and it's pretty nice as far as transition from Windows to Linux goes. It's look/feel and layout resembles Windows or is at least similar enough that it's easy to find your way around and do common tasks that's familiar to any windows desktop user. Even the free version comes pre-loaded with tons of apps for everything you need, and to help the learning curve, they choose Linux apps that were the easiest to use.

One nice thing about it ( with any unix-like system, Linux, BSD or Mac OSX) is.. you dont have to defrag the hard drive.. Ever. The core of those systems use special safeguards so that files dont get fragmented. They Can fragment after a very long period of time but almost never to the point of causing wear and tear on the drive due to fragmentation. A drive running Linux,BSD or Mac OSX will last years longer than a drive running windows. That's another reason people love unix-like systems for servers. I'd say that's a big plus as well as not worrying about having to defrag. Microsoft should take a hint. If Microsoft made an OS based on Linux or BSD it would be unstoppable.

If anyone wants to try the Free version of the OS you can get it here: http://www.zorin-os.com/free.html

The paid for Ultimate version of Zorin 5 OS with tons of extras only costs 10 EU or 14.50 U.S.

I use the free version in a VirtualBox VM - It's super fast for a VM, in fact they boast they have tweaked it to run faster than Windows 7 out the box and faster than the Ubuntu that it's based on. In a VM you notice almost no slowdowns and it really runs as fast as your host.

Sounds like it might be worth using. I wonder how much that laptop costs.

I haven't been able to find out about the hardware costs yet. They don't seem to have that posted anyplace. I'm not in the market for hardware but I wanted to compare the specs to my laptop.

Looks like €449 (ex. shipping) from here: Zorin PC - Store

That is only for single boot, add another $200. for 7?

At the bottom of the page there is a pix of the machine click on the last tab (specifications) to the right and it has a Full Specs link.

At the bottom of that page you can bounce back to the Products page where it talks about Dual-Boot.

Your welcome!

It does seem high I did not like the concern for battery performance, RAM or HDD, but you have to look at it as to what use am I going to need this for?

I see it as a small step up from a laptop someone would use for business/business trips. A bit more cumbersome, perhaps, and there are laptops out there that would outshine the Zorin.

You could try the free version on a more powerful Laptop that already has Windows, wireless, and web cam just to see how it preformed.
