Solved Buying a Seagate SSHD for my laptop?

Alright. Now you can congratulate me or being a jerk.

EDIT: It just confused me that the SSHD was more expensive in the US than in the UK. Whatever...

Easy mistake to make, Amazon's main description looks the same on both drives.

So what drive did you end up with? I'm curious too see how this "adaptive learning" on the hybrid works out. I still need to decide what OS to install, maybe Vista 64 as I have a COA for it.

I ended up with the Samsung 840 120GB. I need little space and prefer the improved performance of it.

See post #4 in this thread for my results on the SSHD. I haven't used my notebook yet since I installed the SSHD and did a few restarts to "train" it so the final results won't be in for a while. Keep in mind, it will not be as fast as a SSD but is, instead, an economical compromise of speed and capacity when only one drive can be used, as in lower end laptops, notebooks, and netbooks. In my case, I couldn't justify shelling out the shekels for an SSD that cost significantly more than the machine it was going into.

I read that the other day, one reason I pulled the trigger on that hybrid drive, that and the price:D

My Inspiron is almost six years old now, the cpu/mem upgrade added some speed, I'm hoping this hybrid adds some more.

I received the SSD on Friday and I've been setting up the computer since then.
It is staggering how quick the computer is opening anything now! There's just no comparison, it is tremendously faster doing anything. Simply amazing, like 1/3 of the time on boot, and no lags whatsoever (running on 4GB RAM and single-core).

That is an understatement. Along with the software optimizations I made (which do count in the long run) this laptop is a brand-new machine! Glad the original HDD broke.
