C & C generals

Ok so i have C&C generals and i try to play it but all i get is (Sorry, A serious error has happened) what i wont to no if there is some way i can get it to work on windows 7 its my favorite game of all got my new cpu today and it dosent work ive try almost everything been to most sites regaurding this topic and it still dosent work i really wont to get it to work even if i have to edit the scripts. thanks please help if you can.

Reinstall the game, patch, and try running in compatability mode. Are you using the disc or a game crack?
