Solved C drive read only after restore from backup

I've had to do a backup restore of my hard drive and now all the files and folders on the entire C drive are read only. I can't change anything even though I'm logged on as the administrator.

I've searched these forums and the net and tried quite a few things to resolve this but I've had no luck. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Might be as simple as taking ownership. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html?ltr=T

Aren't there some locations on C: if you take ownership that way it disables the OS entirely?

Yes, I think you can create problems by taking ownership of some windows 7 files from what I've read, but, I don't know enough about it to say anything with any certainty.

I have resolved the issue by creating a new administrator user account and copying the files from the old user account, with the exception of the following files:

Ntuser.dat
Ntuser.dat.log
Ntuser.ini

The instructions I followed are here: Fix a corrupted user profile

I have yet to attempt to fix the original profile and will probably just delete the old user account at some point.

I did have to adjust some security policies for some programs after logging in on the new user account.
