Caching Issue

Guys, hoping someone can help me out...

I'm experiencing a problem when I'm browsing, in that there are Mbs & Mbs being dumped into my temporary folders.

I normally use IE8, but have also used Google Chrome and they both react in the same manner.

Approx 10 mins of browsing, plus a round of Tiger Woods Online can see as much as 150 Mbs be left in either the Temporary Internet Folder or Internet Cache (depending on the Browser used).

I have to run CCleaner on a regular basis, to stop slowdown due to this.

Has anyne else seen this, or can anyone assist in rectifying?

There is an Advanced>>Security option under IE Tools>>Internet Options to Empty the Temporary Internet Files folder when closing the browser. Alternatively, you can reduce the space allocation for the folder under General>>Browsing History>>Settings.

What exactly do you mean by "slowdown"? Your browser(s) cache are there to AVOID slowdowns when loading websites that you visit on a regular basis. By frequently deleting your cache you actually experience slowdown over and over again xD

@Roncer - Yes, I have that option selected in IE8. although it doesn't seem to be working properly. When running CCleaner, it's still picking up large amounts left the Temporary Files folder. Can't see an option to do similar in Google Chrome.

@Gornot - It's more the AMOUNT of memory that's being dumped... In one session, last week, I managed to accrue almost 1GB in the Temporary Files (and I'd only been on 4 sites).

Sounds like Tiger Woods on line is being saved as you play so you can resume where you left off playing.

Saving the entire game instead of the resume play settings.

Follow the pic below. Click settings which I believe you know already.

Set the cache size to 50 if it shows more than 50.
Sounds like it may be set to 1024 or so.

If it is set on 50 now drop it to 20. That is sufficient.
Click "Okay"

You do not need it larger than 50 or you can get problems as you have.

If you click View Files you can see exactly what is in the cache.
Good to know but not necessary.

PS- Also a good idea to use Windows Disk Cleanup to clear temp files not Ccleaner.
Not likely to delete something you need.

@Hopalong - Thanks for that. I've made the changes, as per your instructions.

Just to clarify, it's not only TWO that's causing this prob (although I agree with what you said).
I can be using Facebook, check my Online Banking, and just normal browsing and I seem to have a larger than normal amount of Memory cached.

I'll monitor, to see how the change affects this.

I like the way Hopalong X handled that gaming settings but I will also go along with Gornot in post #3. What makes you think cache is a bad thing? Browser cache speeds up your internet experience.

Sorry Guys,
I got the explanation slightly wrong.... apologies.

The dumping is going into the SYSTEM's own Temporary Files folder, AS WELL AS the Temporary Files folder for the Browser.
As I said, it can reach an amount where it's quite obviously slowing down my Processor.

Can anyone shed any light on what I can do stop this happening?

If you are talking about <Username>AppData/Local/Temp, I just noticed that my folder is only 25MB, although I often do a disk clean up that empties that folder. You could look at the names of the large files to see where they are coming from.

It appears that the files are being dumped here:-

C:\Users\Stephen\AppData\Local\Temp\MessengerCache

This is happening even though I do not USE Messenger, nor can I see it running in my Processes.

Is any messenging software installed? If so, uninstall it. Also, what are the NAMES of the large files, including the file extensions? That might provide a clue as to where they came from also.

There's also a Thumbnail cache file that's 1024kb in size

Looks like CCleaner says your TIFs are in the wrong place. Go to Tools/Internet Options/Browsing History Settings. Make sure the location of temporary files reads "c:\users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files". If not use the move folder option and navigate to the "Windows" folder within that tree. When you're done the location should read as above with no mention of the folder "Temp". (I'm guessing "Temporary Internet Files" should not be a sub-folder of "Temp".)

I tried to move the Temp Internet Folder, but in the Folder you suggested there are two further sub-folders.

Have uninstalled the Messaging software, and this has helped to a certain extent.

Will monitor and update with any further issues.
