Call Of Duty on my x64 Windows 7 Pro. Is it possible?

I am an old gamer from late 90's - 2001. I got these premiums games with a Graphics card purchase on Newegg. I started them on my XP Pro, but got busy with website and other stuff.

I am in a Dual/Multi boot with that OS and now use Windows 7 Pro x64 mostly. I am interested in installing Call of Duty: World at War and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. I think I got the last "patches", but I am not sure if they are truely the most up to date ones.

Has anyone installed these on an Windows 7 x64? Any pre install advise one could give or a link where the final patches for these two are, would be helpful? I also have a few oldies, but goodies I would love to play around with at some point.

Also, is there any good FPS's titles that my OS can handle out of the box out, or soon to come out. I did (still do) like FEAR, Unreal Tornament, Quake, you know the crowd. I don't like too much cussing or too much gore. So, Hopefully I can get a few titles that allow a little less of these things. I don't mind a little blood splatter, or moans of pain and such. It's just I the language that turns me off a bit these days. I used to really like in Unreal when you did a headshot from a distance with a sniper rifle/Scope. (I was good at that, I was).

OPPS! sorry for the reminising. If anyone can help this old geezer put his gamers cap back on and get lead into some exciting games and back to these COD's to start with, I would really appreciate it.

if the build is the one thats in your specs, you should have little difficulty. the only thing i could see bottlenecking your FPS would be your vid card. other than that, you'd be good.

Dun think so. I used it in my XP Pro OS (I am in Dual boot with it). I just don't want to have to go into XP to play games. I am kind of leaning away from XP. My beloved XFX GeForce 9600 GSO 1 GB Graphics Card has done quite well since I bought it in 2006-7 (I forget which year, lol. Oh sure, who wouldn
t want the latest and greatest card available. I would love to try out my SLi stuff on my MB. Having this Phenom II x4 965 BE is a brag point for me as well. I was going to do some of that SETI and that other stuff that the colleges can use my CPU's & GPU's for. But, I'll go for the games 1st.

I simply couldn't afford anymore hardware at this time. I am having to get a new keyboard this Friday and that'll be it for awhile. (I need to eat ya know).

I am not sure on the correct patches and what needs to be done about things like the DX stuff. The smatterings of info out there really didn't help me, simply it seems out of order. I just don't know exactly how to proceed. I will back everythig up to be sure,. Including the registry. I started to think I would need that darned XP Mode stuff, which I thought was redundant, being I already had XP loaded and would just switch.

Anyway, you sound quite positive it'll get installed without too much troubles. I sure hope so.

You are good to go, it shouldn't give you any problems, even though neither game was actually made with win 7 in mind, the backwards compatibility for 7 is a lot better than it was in vista.

Well I have CoD4 installed on 7x64 running great. If memory serves right clicking on the setup and running as admin installing outside of the program files. Then patched to 1.6x then 1.7x. Used to get an error starting up SP not MP, but that went away with the new 5670 & drivers.

I run both the games you mention (through Steam) and use Windows 7 Ultimate x64 - no trouble at all.

Make sure you update your DirectX files!!!

Yep, i got COD4 through Steam and it's running without issues (SP and MP).

I only play FPS SP (Campaign) games and I have been playing all those games on Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit since it first came out.

Yes, some games have problems but it is mostly due to coding problems in the game than an issues with Win 7... sometimes, the patches fix the issue, some other times, nothing seem to do so but your miles may vary.

One thing I will say is this... Audio & Video Drivers seem to get corrupted easily now a days so always keep a fresh copy of the latest drivers when having issues or troubleshooting.

Also, if when installing games you are told to install directx 9, DO SO, do not think that just because you have win 7 and directx 10, you have the latest files... some games change a file or two and you need it to make the game playable.

Some games don't like Overclocking PCs so think about this as well when troubleshooting.
