I purchased a webcam (yeah, welcome to the 90s!) so the in-laws can see the new baby. It came without software. Any suggestions for reliable quality software that will work with a USB webcam?

Thanks!

R

What brand is the web cam?. If it's Logitech you should be able download the software from the Logitech website, just make sure you have the correct model details etc., so you get the right software. If it's another brand do a Google search for their website & do as suggested above.

Supplied software is become a rare item these days. Now you mostly have to download the software from the makers website. The directions that came with it, might mention the correct website to use.

It's some generic brand HXS that had great reviews on Amazon. The instructions are very poorly written English, so I'm guessing some random Chinese brand or such. They don't appear to have their own website. It's apparently designed to just work with whatever software you are already using. I just don't want to install Skype or other such MS bloatware.

Take a look at an older option YawCam Does everything you would normally need like recording, streaming, and maybe a plus maybe a minus has a simple old style look to the interface

Yawcam - Yet Another Webcam Software

YawCam is one I was considering, I remember a lot of people used it back in the yahoo chat days. Thanks for the recommendation!

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
Skype is exactly what I'm trying to avoid! At least, after it was taken over by Microsoft.

CyberLink YouCam and ManyCam may be what you're looking for, popular and easy to use. Unfortunately CyberLink is not free, but ManyCam is. Another choice would be Logitech Webcam software, I like its professional look :)
